The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join our Translational Data Science team in Utrecht! Here you will work on a collaborative project with the Translational and Quantitative Sciences (TQS) Data Management & Clinical Biomarker Operations team. In partnership with Clinical Operations, you will contribute to the development of a Biomarker Operations Inventory Management Dashboard: a centralized, scalable solution designed to modernize how biomarker operations and inventory data are consolidated and managed across studies.
The project aims to integrate data from multiple CROs, automate existing Excel- and macro-based workflows through Databricks and AWS pipelines, and provide a Shiny-based interface for interactive data visualization and exploration. By standardizing and automating these processes, the solution will enhance efficiency, ensure data traceability, and improve overall quality in clinical operations data management.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement ETL pipelines to automate consolidation of Excel/macro-driven workflows.
- Integrate multiple BOM-related data sources into a centralized master inventory.
- Develop an R Shiny interface for data exploration, reporting, and quality control.
- Apply data engineering practices in Databricks and AWS for scalability and reliability.
- Implement data quality checks and generate feedback for CROs.
- Explore AI/LLM-based approaches for efficiency, such as natural language queries or anomaly detection.
- Align dashboard design with clinical operations workflows and document the process.
- Present prototypes and findings to Clinical Operations and Translational Data Science teams.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled - throughout the duration of this internship - in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related fieldat a Dutch university.
- Available for 6-12 months.
- Experience with R and Shiny for visualization and application development.
- Familiarity with Python and/or SQL for data processing.
- Interest in data platforms (e.g., Databricks, AWS).
- Experience with Excel-based workflows (including macros) is a plus.
