The Wholesale Training and Development Manager is responsible for designing, delivering, and optimizing training programs, tools, and resources for General Motors' District Sales Managers (DSMs/VSMs) and HQ personnel. This role ensures alignment with corporate goals, supports field execution and communication, and fosters a continuous-learning culture across wholesale operations. The role serves as the subject-matter expert (SME) for wholesale training and development , integrating across Sales, CCA, the GLN, and other internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities (not in priority order)

Wholesale New-Hire and Continuous Development (VSM/DM)

  • Design and lead new-hire onboarding for Wholesale District Managers (VSM/DM) and related roles, including DMIT and co-op/new-grad pathways.
  • Build and maintain a growth mindset learning curriculum , focused on developing future-ready capabilities (e.g., Power BI, analytics, AI, financial acumen).
  • Plan and execute Learning Hours and other recurring development touchpoints (e.g., Lunch & Learns, diagonal slices with leaders).
  • Create and maintain cross-functional training for VSMs/DMs in partnership with CCA, Finance, Legal and other stakeholders
  • Lead Key Reporting and insights within VSSM (e.g., Goodwill, Claims, SPA, EV strategy, distribution, digital tools).
  • Collaborate with global partners to align Canadian content with national and global learning strategies , leveraging broader strategies where appropriate while representing Canadian needs.
  • Own the annual wholesale training plan , including roadmap, workbacks, and alignment to Retail Excellence and Sales business plans.

District Manager Tools and Resources - Measurement and Reporting

  • Act as product owner/business lead for DM-facing tools and reporting , including:

    • Dealer Report Card (design, enhancements, governance, and field readiness).
    • Power BI DM Dashboards and other performance scorecards (DM KPIs, market share analytics, forecasting views).
    • Scorecards and KPI tracking tied to wholesale and field priorities.
  • Support governance and continuous improvement of Dealer Contact Tools , including business requirements, UAT, field feedback, and launch/change management.
  • Maintain and evolve Field/Wholesale SharePoint sites as the central hub for tools, reference documents, and training content.
  • Provide business support for the forecasting tool and related reporting, including training, troubleshooting, and how-to resources for the field.
  • Support ad hoc reporting and analytics (e.g., REP, training utilization, contest performance) to inform leadership decisions and field coaching.

DM / Field Communications

  • Co-lead or support Field Connect / Field Communications strategy, ensuring a single, reliable source of truth for DM communications in partnership with the Sales Ops & Communications team.
  • Own content development and calendar for the Field Connect newsletter and related ad hoc updates (e.g., training, tools, contests, process changes).
  • Coordinate and lead the FieldNet / Day 1 meeting cadence and content, ensuring key program, tool, and performance updates are delivered clearly and on time as well as any Ad Hoc Sales Updates.
  • Partner with leaders and cross-functional teams to plan, launch, and track field sales contests , including criteria, reporting, and recognition communications.
  • Draft and manage field communication for program and HOL changes and other key policy/process updates, ensuring clarity, timing, and alignment with leadership direction.

Goodwill, Claims, SPA, and Incentive Protection Training

  • Design and maintain training for Goodwill processes, decisioning guidelines, and reporting, including monitoring usage trends and surfacing insights to Regions and leadership.
  • Partner with stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Legal, CCA, Claims) to deliver training on Claims, SPA programs, and incentive protection , with a focus on risk mitigation, policy compliance, and dealer support.
  • Create clear reference materials, playbooks, and job aids that simplify complex policy topics for DMs and wholesale staff.

PDD, Internal VSSM Events, and Dealer Events/Conferences

  • Lead or support Professional Development Days (PDD) for wholesale and field audiences, including agenda design, content development, facilitation plans, and post-event evaluations.
  • Support internal VSSM events and meetings (e.g., Kickoffs, PDD, Sales Rallies) by coordinating wholesale training content, leadership messages, and breakout sessions across brands and functions.
  • Support dealer-facing events and conferences (e.g., Dealer Business Conference, PDDs incl. Regional, executive roundtables) from a training and field-readiness lens, ensuring consistency of messaging and learning outcomes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Automotive or related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive wholesale, field sales, dealer operations, or training & development; OEM experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering training (virtual and in-person) for professional audiences; familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Degreed, Cornerstone) is an asset.
  • Proven track record working with data and reporting tools (Power BI, Excel, dashboards) to inform business decisions and training priorities.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint ; comfort working with dashboards, scorecards, and large data sets.
  • Experience with content development and facilitation (ILTs, VCTs, microlearning, job aids); familiarity with adult learning principles.
  • Ability to quickly learn and translate complex topics (e.g., incentive programs, Goodwill, SPA, forecasting tools) into clear, actionable training and communication.

Core Competencies

  • Strategic thinking & planning: Able to connect training, tools, and communication to broader GM priorities and Retail Excellence strategies.
  • Project and workback management: Skilled at building workback schedules, managing multiple projects with tight deadlines, and keeping stakeholders aligned from design through execution.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to simplify complex content for field and dealer audiences; practices "smart brevity" in field communications.
  • Collaboration & influence: Strong interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally with Sales, CCA, Finance, Legal, IT, GLN, Regions, and dealer partners, influencing without direct authority.
  • Change leadership: Comfortable leading change (new tools, programs, and processes), managing field feedback, and iterating based on data and insights.
  • Bilingualism: English/French bilingualism is a strong asset given national scope.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid role based out of OEC or MEC , with flexibility to collaborate virtually across regions and HQ.
  • Some travel required within Canada for PDDs, dealer events, conferences, and regional training .

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $97,800.00 to $146,600. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
