System Architecture Researcher
Description
We need your help in creating the next generation of systems and architectures, in the propulsion, thermal and battery domains. This will require broad skills and knowledge in methods of evaluating system efficiency, vehicle level impact of component and system architecture choices, in terms of efficiency, performance or other system level technical metrics. You will also help guide component and subsystem experts in technical innovations that bring the most value at a system level. You also should be able to creatively come up with new integration ideas or concepts that combine new or known subsystems in a synergistic way to unlock system level benefits, either through change in architecture or controls strategies. The work may involve development of proof-of-concept hardware to further prove out concepts that look promising in virtual development. A typical candidate would have deep technical expertise in either area (propulsion, or thermal or batteries) and significant experience with system level assessment and skills, that can be transferred across different domains.

What you will do:
Generate innovative ideas, propose new R&D projects, evaluate technologies, plan and execute projects to meet customer needs. Ensure timely protection of all IP
Lead research and/or experiments to collect required data and validate research ideas in developing. Write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications, and records of invention to document new ideas and research results in your area of research
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments to grow core technical skills and competencies.
Manage relationships and grow partnership with divisional staffs to meet project objectives
Observe and ensure support personnel proper safety practices and ensure personal protective equipment is in working order. Communicate laboratory hazards appropriately.
Execute technical and special assignments.
Assist lab management in identifying megatrends in technology and business strategies in the automotive sector.
Contribute responses to threats and opportunities.
Represent GM as a leader to the external technical and business communities.
Lead technical discussions and reviews as an expert in your field, and communicate results and progress across the organization.
Grow and diversify personal skills and competency base.
Requirements:
The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the successful candidate to be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
ADVANCED (PHD) DEGREE IN SCIENCE/ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES
Individual Contributor, 3-5+ years work experience
In-depth knowledge of the state-of-the-art research in specialized areas.
Consistently demonstrate innovative thinking and strong partnership.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experienced individual researcher with 3-5 years experience
