Staff Engineer, Packaging Lead - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (Advanced Vehicle Development)

Today Warren, MI

Description

The Role:

We are seeking a motivated candidate to lead packaging of advanced driver assistance (ADAS) components - LiDAR, radar, cameras - in early development of vehicle programs. In this position, you will be the lead voice of ADAS electrical requirements and vehicle integration to Advanced Vehicle Development (AVD), other engineering functions and Design Studio. The position involves significant collaboration with the electrical commodity, vehicle compartment integration, design studio, program, and electrical design teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Become the go-to expert for your components and subsystems, helping shape the strategy for your functional area.
  • Partner closely with ADAS technical specialists and system engineers to bring the latest technologies to life on the vehicle, raising any implementation concerns early.
  • Lead how sensors and related hardware are physically and functionally integrated into the vehicle from the earliest stages of program development.
  • Collaborate and negotiate interfaces with other component owners and the design studio to create seamless, well-integrated solutions.
  • Make sure all key technical requirements are built in from the start (performance, interfaces, best practices, GMW3172, DFMEA, benchmarking, and lessons learned).
  • Own and communicate packaging status across all AVD programs using a clear scorecard, including regular updates to the Commodity Director Core PDT.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for both internal teams and external partners.
  • Represent your systems and components in key workgroups that influence early vehicle and technology integration.
  • Bring together stakeholders across CAE, Vehicle Architecture, Design Studio, Performance Integration, Manufacturing, Service Engineering, Body, Interiors, and more to co-create the best overall vehicle solutions.
  • Lead peer reviews to drive robust, high-quality engineering decisions.
  • Provide early sensor mapping to programs and help simplify sensor strategies and variants wherever possible.
  • Develop smart mounting strategies that reduce fasteners and mass while maintaining performance and robustness.
  • Ensure your designs meet all relevant vehicle and component criteria, including ICDm, EMC/environmental, thermal, stone and water protection, crashworthiness, manufacturing/ergonomics, and serviceability.
  • Use data-driven tools and methodologies (such as Pugh matrices, DFSS, and benchmarking) to guide decisions and trade-offs.
  • Provide clear technical direction to UG designers to turn concepts into high-quality designs.
  • Act as the "voice of AVD / Vehicle Architecture" back to the commodity team, influencing next-generation systems and components with realistic, scalable packaging requirements that work across multiple programs.
