OnStar Vehicle Data System Engineer
Description
The Role:
The OnStar Vehicle Data System Engineer is responsible for Establishing and laying the grounds for End-to-End operational KPI of Products/platforms related services based on the technology of data collection from GM vehicles, and lead in the space of Operational metrics/insights.
This role will be part of the Connected Ops vehicle operations team that supports vehicle data-based services i.e. (OnStar services delivered using cellular connection CDMA/LTE such as mobile apps OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics, Vehicle Health Alerts, Theft Alert Notification, driving insights, Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA),HSVT (High Speed Vehicle Telemetry) mobile app's location sharing, digital operations, chat bots, virtual advising, etc. Running operations and understanding customer experience is executed and achieved using data analysis and data science tools.
The Individual would be assisting in the efforts to develop "first in line" insights, Key performance indicators, and effectiveness of all vehicle data quality for vehicle data collection and digital/nondigital solutions that are being implemented to help GM achieve their business goal. The individual is responsible for providing technical expertise to develop analytics that meets the data quality 5 dimensions:
Accuracy of Data within products/platforms (Example: Mobile app vehicle data)
Completeness of Data within products/platform
Reliability of Data within products/platform
Relevance of Data within products/platform
Timeliness of delivering Data within products/platform
The individual will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary and cross organizational team of various experience levels that will be driving solutions by designing, developing, and deploying analytic models to measure performances supporting critical business areas and build automated data quality monitoring frameworks to ensure vehicle data meets high integrity standards.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical and innovative plans and solutions to complex application/system related problems that spans multiple platforms and technologies, and enterprise data ecosystems
- Cutting edge - Telematics / Analysis of real-time data transactions that cross multiple applications / layers and that tracks vehicle performance.
- Creating critical operational and performance metrics for high velocity and critical applications that pump in millions of vehicle related transactions every day.
- Simplify and optimize complex data processes to provide a simple view to the organization.
- Monitor and ensure data performance SLAs, leveraging enterprise monitoring tools and metrics to maintain stable system operations and proactively address performance deviations.
- Architect end to end reporting data solutions spanning platforms of Operational Data Stores (ODS), Data Marts, Azure Data Services and Hadoop big data clusters to provide a unified 360-degree view of systems.
- Work on extensive data analytics on the big data platforms using Oracle, Hive/Hadoop, Sqoop, Cognos, Tableau using new and big data methodologies and extensive use of ETL (extract, transform and Load) methods on data out of traditional RBMS systems data to derive insights
- Work with application subject matter experts for vehicle domain data spanning programs that support Smart Vehicle Driving behaviors, Vehicle Heath Diagnostics programs, High Speed Vehicle Telemetry, Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA) and other programs that have a frequent touchpoint with the vehicle.
- Closely work with engineering teams to understand vehicle data collection tasks set on vehicles and the profile, size and integrity of the vehicle data elements coming back from the vehicles. Escalate emerging issues to leadership and ensure successful closures (by involving right technical teams.)
- Work and Adapt to both Waterfall/Agile methodologies - Be a part of requirements gathering, technical design, testing strategy, and deploy and provide insights on data flow patterns, required metrics, and platform improvement initiatives.

- Strong Problem-solving skills, strong communication, and presentation skills
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Familiarity with statistics and ability to explain why a specific model was chosen.

- Knowledge of Kafka streaming systems and Microservices Architecture
- Understand architectural tenets of clouds ecosystems.
- Understand ETL methodologies across multiple product ecosystems.
- Experience with data in cloud and Microsoft Azure
- Business intelligence and data analysis software - Power BI, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
- Knowledge and experience with Database management system software - Apache Hadoop; Oracle PL/SQL; Teradata Database, Apache Cassandra, Apache Hive, NoSQL, Azure.
- Knowledge of Unix skills - Shell scripting and integration with ORACLE SQL
- Expert in using SQL across Postgres databases, Hadoop/Hive & Oracle systems.
