The Role
As the Lean Material Strategies Execution Lead, you will serve as the enterprise driver for implementing lean material flow, automation technologies, and LMS strategy across GMNA assembly plants. You will lead material execution from Contract Sign-Off (CSO) through Start of Regular Production (SORP), ensuring each new program is supported with optimized material flow, automation integration, and efficient lineside delivery. Your work enables GM to achieve world-class efficiency, labor optimization, and standardized performance across all GMNA assembly plants.
During ramp up this role will require regular travel to manufacturing sites such as Fairfax, KS and/or Wentzville, MO.
What You'll Do
- Lead lean material planning and execution from CSO through SORP for new product programs.
- Develop long-term material flow strategies and automation roadmaps, including ASRS, AMR/AME, and LMS technologies.
- Coordinate cross-functional alignment with Engineering, Supply Chain, IT, Controls, Program Teams, and Plant Launch Teams.
- Create and maintain 2D/3D material flow and LMS layouts for GA four-walls and onsite logistics centers (LOCs).
- Conduct Distance/Density Per Part (DPP) and Part Number (DPPn) analyses and manage Plan For Every Part (PFEP) updates for evolving program requirements.
- Develop detailed material execution plans covering investment needs, storage space, routing, and lineside material presentation.
- Support automation deployment and system validation with IT and Controls, including configuration and integration activities.
- Oversee execution checkbooks, benefit trackers, and standardized LMS/material performance metrics across GMNA plants.
- Participate in conveyor/tooling layout deep dives and station-by-station reviews to ensure optimal material flow.
- Develop SORs, onboard suppliers, and coordinate procurement/installation of LMS and automation equipment.
- Lead onsite launch readiness, manage contract IE resources, and drive issue resolution during IVER/PTB and assembly builds.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in material launch, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Supply Chain in assembly environments.
- Experience supporting lean material strategy, material automation deployment, and launch execution.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, material flow, and supply chain fundamentals.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, or equivalent layout and modeling tools.
- High level of analytical ability and problem solving where problems are unusual and difficult.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Supply Chain) or related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Supply Chain).
- Plant operations or launch experience in General Assembly.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams, managing timelines, and providing executive-level updates.
- Understanding of automation principles (ASRS, AMR/AME, material flow automation).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings at all levels.
