The Role

From the historic Durant-Dort Carriage Company Factory One to our forward-looking Heritage Center & Archive, we celebrate the innovations that have redefined mobility and connected communities across decades.
We're entering an exciting new chapter, and we're looking for a strategic leader who can pair business acumen with a passion for storytelling and cultural stewardship. As Manager of Heritage Operations Strategy, you'll drive marketing, communications, and outreach that amplify GM's legacy-making it not just remembered, but reimagined for the world ahead.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership and Business growth
- Develop and execute integrated strategies that advance GM Heritage business objectives, optimize facility utilization, and deliver exceptional visitor and user experiences.
- Lead strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects by setting clear goals, aligning stakeholders, and managing resources to achieve measurable outcomes.
- Identify and pursue new revenue streams, strategic partnerships, and programming opportunities that broaden the reach and impact of GM's heritage assets.
- Collaborate with Analytics and Finance teams to define key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor progress, and inform data-driven strategy.
Brand Stewardship and Public Engagement
- Champion the GM Heritage brand to increase visibility, engagement, and relevance among internal business units and external community audiences.
- Serve as a brand ambassador, collaborating with internal teams, agencies, and community partners to elevate GM's heritage through compelling, shareable storytelling across platforms.
- Ensure all marketing and communications initiatives reflect GM's corporate identity, brand standards, and messaging guidelines.
- Represent GM Heritage Operations on nonprofit boards and affiliated organizations to further strategic goals and community impact.
Cultural Programming and Community Partnerships
- Cultivate partnerships with local institutions, educational organizations, and cultural entities to co-create programming and expand public access.
- Demonstrate a deep appreciation for automotive history and translate that passion into immersive, inclusive experiences for diverse audiences.
- Coordinate and conduct oral history interviews with executives, long-tenured employees, retirees, and other key figures to enrich GM's storytelling archive.
Archival and Operational Excellence
- Oversee the identification, documentation, acquisition, and preservation of historically significant materials, providing expert guidance on archival best practices.
- Support daily operations including scheduling, logistics, vendor coordination, and facility management to ensure seamless and memorable visitor experiences.

Team Leadership and Development
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and management of paid staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and excellence.
- Mentor team members and cultivate an environment of continuous growth, innovation, and shared success.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in strategy, business operations, or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
- Experience in corporate communications or marketing operations.
- Strong strategic mindset with the ability to assess tradeoffs and make decisions with an enterprise-wide perspective.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and defining complex challenges.
- Proven track record of developing and executing impactful strategies.
- Highly collaborative with strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
