Infotainment Software Integration Manager

2 weeks ago Austin, TX

Description

The Role

The Infotainment Software Integration Manager (SWIM) is responsible for planning, integrating, and releasing infotainment software that meets customer, vehicle program, and business requirements across GM's digital cockpit and connectivity platforms (e.g., VCU/VCU+, CCU/CHM, Info 3.x, SDV2).

This role owns the end-to-end software build, integration, and release readiness process for infotainment controllers, ensuring the right content, at the right quality, is available at the right time for vehicle milestones and launch.

Mission

Ensure that infotainment software content for assigned controllers is integrated, validated, and released in alignment with customer experience, safety, quality, and program objectives.

Primary Customers

  • Vehicle Integration & Program Teams (vehicle team, vPgM, pPgM, PEMs)
  • Infotainment Software Development Teams (apps, UX, audio, connectivity, platform/BSP)
  • Calibration, Validation, and Quality Teams (SQE, UI VI, xIL, CG owners)
  • External Suppliers & Platform Partners (e.g., Google/Android Automotive OS, Tier-1 ECU suppliers)

Key Responsibilities

1. Infotainment Software Build & Integration Management

  • Plan and oversee integration of infotainment software content for controller system releases and interim software builds (e.g., VCU/VCU+ cadences, CCU/CHM, Info 3.x).
  • Define and manage software swim lanes for infotainment products, balancing feature content, resources, and platform variants (VIP, SDV2, connected vs non-connected).
  • Develop and maintain a software delivery plan aligned to PI/cadence plans, vehicle milestones, and certification timelines (e.g., Google XTS, Dolby Atmos, Android Auto).
  • Collaborate with Software Architects, Design Leads, and Program Managers to align content, dependencies, and technical constraints (RAM, ROM, CPU, NVM, throughput).
  • Create and manage work tickets (WTs) for target-dependent and target-independent releases; track content, dependencies, and status in Jira/PRTS and related tools.

2. Release Readiness & Execution

  • Chair or co-chair Software Execution / Release Readiness meetings for infotainment controllers, driving decisions on Go/No-Go for cadences and milestones.
  • Own the release readiness narrative: content, defects, validation status, open risks, and mitigations across internal stakeholders and partner teams.
  • Coordinate with DevOps/SCM and suppliers on upstream code drops, branch strategy, and integration of platform/in-house content.
  • Ensure release timeline activities (bug freeze, keys builds, OSS scan, signed keys sanity, SPR/production release, PPAP support) are planned and executed per SWIM SOPs.

3. Verification, Validation & Quality Leadership

  • Develop and maintain ADV / test plans for infotainment software builds, ensuring coverage across xIL, bench, and vehicle testing (CG/Non-CG, COMR, HWIO, KBT/DVT, UI flows).
  • Plan and lead execution of integration and regression testing for each cadence (e.g., Pre-Flight Check/Smart Regression, SIBT-like flows, sanity checks).
  • Coordinate CG and milestone testing (e.g., CG2999, CG3000, CG6113, UI/UX CGs, connectivity and certification test campaigns) and ensure failures are analyzed with clear owners and plans.
  • Partner with Infotainment QA, UI Vehicle Integration, and Triage/Operations teams to drive continuous quality improvements, warranty feedback loops, and key metric reporting.

4. Issue Management & Debugging

  • Own the defect and anomaly resolution funnel for infotainment builds: triage issues, prioritize with stakeholders, and track resolution through implementation and re-test.
  • Maintain current status in defect tracking tools (Jira/PRTS) with implementation plans, build of first fix, and validation results.
  • Coordinate xIL, bench, and vehicle debug activities with development, QA, suppliers, and platform teams; ensure critical issues are resolved ahead of plant builds and milestones.
  • Prepare and maintain concise "one-pager" or readiness summaries for key plant and executive builds (content, quality, risk, mitigation, next steps).

5. Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Act as primary infotainment software liaison between development, QA, DevOps/SCM, calibration, and vehicle teams for assigned controllers.
  • Provide clear, timely status updates and risk/issue communication to leadership and cross-functional teams (e.g., SWIM Council/X-SWIM, DVE Ops, PMT, EA/RPR-style forums).
  • Ensure alignment with program management on content scope, timing, and readiness for each cadence and milestone build.
  • Represent infotainment SWIM in forums that drive process, tooling, and SOP improvements, sharing best practices across domains (VCU, CCU/CHM, Telematics, etc.).

6. Process, Tools & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply and promote SWIM SOPs, ECU-PoE tasks, and standard processes for software integration and release; support audits and compliance activities as required.
  • Leverage and help evolve tooling (Gerrit, Jenkins, Jira/PRTS, dashboards, metrics) to drive automation, repeatability, and transparency in the integration pipeline.
  • Identify and implement process and quality improvements that reduce cycle time, improve stability, and enhance developer and tester efficiency.
  • Mentor teammates and partners on infotainment software integration concepts, best practices, and tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12+ years of experience in development, integration, and/or validation of automotive embedded software, ideally in infotainment, connectivity, or similar domains.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing software builds and releases for complex, multi-ECU systems.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Android-based platforms (AAOS) or other infotainment OSes
    • CAN/LIN, Ethernet, diagnostics, serial data, and over-the-air (OTA) concepts
    • Software configuration management and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Git/Gerrit, Jenkins)
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority and drive resolution on complex technical issues.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills; able to synthesize complexity into clear status and decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Software Integration Manager (SWIM), Software Strategist, Program Engineer, or equivalent in GM or similar automotive environments.
  • Prior hands-on experience with infotainment controllers (VCU/VCU+, Info 3.x, CCU/CHM) and associated build/release processes.
  • Familiarity with Google certification and partner test suites (e.g., XTS for Android Automotive, media/voice integration, Dolby Atmos, Android Auto).
  • Experience coordinating xIL, CG, and vehicle-level validation across multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated success in process definition and continuous improvement within software integration/release organizations.

Key Competencies

  • Systems Thinking - Understands how infotainment software, hardware, networks, and cloud services interact to deliver end-user experiences.
  • Execution Excellence - Drives disciplined planning, dependency management, and execution across multiple releases and stakeholders.
  • Technical Leadership - Guides teams through integration challenges, resource constraints, and complex defect resolution.
  • Collaboration & Influence - Builds strong relationships across engineering, validation, suppliers, and program management to align on priorities and outcomes.
