The Role
The Chassis Systems Virtual Design Development Validation (VDDV) team is a cutting-edge team that is critical to achieving GM's vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion by developing and executing structural analysis procedures that support vehicle design development and validation. As a Chassis Structure Suspension Steering & Wheels Simulation Engineer, you will conduct design assessments with CAE methods that support vehicle development & validation. You will perform structural analysis of components/systems to assess the following characteristics: stiffness (static and dynamic), strength, durability, noise & vibration, and fastened joint performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop designs that meet customer requirements. You will also engage in innovation projects by supporting development of virtual tools and methods.
What You'll Do
- Lead execution of common virtual strategies for Chassis components & systems to support vehicle program development timeline.
- Develop engineering designs and present results with impactful recommendations, based on analysis and optimization methods.
- Actively participate in Chassis Product Development Teams (PDTs) by collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop designs that meet customer requirements.
- Lead all aspects of coordinated supplier CAE activities.
- Participate in CAE Focus Groups to keep up to date with latest CAE methods, tools, and trends.
- Participate in development of new or revised analysis procedures, methods, and tools (e.g., software, applications, scripts/coding) to enhance simulation capability, speed, and efficiency.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in engineering.
- Experience in structural design and/or analysis.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- DFSS Black Belt Certification.
- MS in Engineering Degree.
- Knowledge of engineering theory and application in Chassis and/or CAE solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAD and CAE software/applications and methods (e.g., FE modeling, analysis, optimization, multi-body dynamics, coding), such as NX, MATLAB/C++/Python, HyperWorks, ANSA, NASTRAN, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, nCode DesignLife, OptiStruct, iSight, Adams & Simpack.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
- Ability to create presentations that communicate technical information in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Skilled at delivering results summaries to all levels of management.
