The Role

As a Business Manager, you will hold supervisory responsibility for a small/medium group of employees involved in the paint repair process. You will support the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment and participate in training and developing salaried and hourly employees.

Work can be of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). You will support all paint floor activities (pilots, re-builds, customer reviews, etc.) while helping to meet or exceed production cost schedule and maintain quality requirements.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management.
  • Understand and consistently administer the National and Local agreements between GM and the UAW.
  • Maintain plant floor operations (utilizing PR&T).
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
  • Must be willing to rotate shifts or cover off shift hours, including weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing to cover Shift Lead in their absence.
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Allocate manpower for the shift and manage on roll Required to Run (RTR).
  • Review and maintain Non-Scheduled Overtime (NSOT).
  • Review and maintain HCC vacations and temp utilization.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the Global Manufacturing System (GMS).
  • Knowledge and experience with Business Plan Deployment (BPD).
  • Coach, teach, and mentor Group Leaders.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of experience with manufacturing systems
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience leading teams, including represented and non-represented team members.
  • Knowledge and experience of the overall painting process.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience in PR&T
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience with Kronos.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience with HCC (Hourly Communication Channel).
  • Knowledge and experience with Throughput Improvement Process (TIP).
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Plant H&S policies and procedures.
