The Role:
General Motors is seeking a driven Brake Component Design Release Engineer to lead the development, integration, and production launch of advanced braking systems for next-generation vehicle programs. This role combines technical expertise, program leadership, and supplier management to deliver high-performance components that meet rigorous safety, quality, and timing standards.
You will guide your product development team through the full Vehicle Development Process, from defining requirements to designing and releasing a complex brake subsystem into production. Responsibilities include utilizing engineering tools and processes to develop robust, manufacturable components and systems, while driving milestone achievement through disciplined and proactive program management.

You'll coach and lead suppliers to ensure flawless execution of deliverables, and apply a high level of independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to solve complex challenges and continuously improve product quality and performance.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Lead the Product Development Team (PDT) for brake system components and subsystems.
- Manage the design, release, and integration of brake components into GM systems with precision and timeliness.
- Oversee pre-production builds, ensuring properties are shipped test-ready and aligned with program milestones.
- Drive completion of Design Validation using analytical tools such as FEA, modal analysis, and virtual builds.
- Identify root causes of design issues and implement effective solutions.
- Define and develop technical specifications including CTS, SSTS, SOR, and ICD documents.
- Refine design criteria and typical sections using math data to support robust engineering decisions.
- Conduct trade off studies and recommend program direction based on cost, mass, and timing.
- Lead and support technical reviews with suppliers and internal teams.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities with purchasing, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams.
- Monitor warranty data and address emerging product issues.
- Translate lessons learned into best practices and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Strong grasp of engineering theory, design principles, and system integration.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• High analytical aptitude for solving complex, non-routine problems.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective team and supplier engagement.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and engineering operations.
• Familiarity in CAD and CAE tools.
• Understanding of Specification and Release systems.
• DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) Certification.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle daily.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Experience):
• Prior experience in brake system design and release.
