2nd Shift VAA Coordinator/Packaging
Description
The 2nd Shift VAA Coordinator/Packaging Specialist is responsible for overseeing VAA and 3P supplier operations-including transportation-to support uninterrupted plant production. Working under general supervision on 2nd shift, this role requires strong independent judgment, quick problem-solving, and frequent coordination across multiple departments. Daily activities include resolving part and build issues, addressing transportation or equipment concerns, managing supplier performance, and conducting audits to ensure compliance and production stability.
Success in this role requires strong system skills (or the ability to learn quickly) and working knowledge of MGO, PPS, Excel, and various web-based applications.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Coordinate daily operations and problem resolution with VAA and 3P suppliers through effective communication, planning, and decision-making.
- Partner with Ryder Transportation to maintain continuous material flow from all VAA and 3P suppliers to the plant.
- Maintain detailed records of GM-owned equipment requiring repairs and follow up with Ryder on fleet status.
- Support 2nd shift dolly repairs by coordinating dolly movement between the plant and Ryder LOC.
- Perform weekly/monthly safety audits at VAA and 3P locations; communicate and escalate safety incidents to SL and 3PM as needed.
- Respond to transportation incidents and property damage and ensure affected equipment is red-tagged and removed from service.
- Verify daily staffing levels at all VAA and 3P suppliers and report concerns to SL and 3PM.
- Audit transportation resources to confirm suppliers are appropriately staffed to support production.
- Report supplier part issues to the plant follow-up team and ensure timely resolution.
- Interface with VAA/3P suppliers, LLP, and plant floor teams on material-related issues.
- Conduct GMS audits at VAA/3P suppliers and support them in maintaining SLT and BIQ compliance.
- Diagnose and resolve supplier floor issues such as:
- min/max discrepancies
- repacks and sorts
- sequencing issues
- short-shipped parts
- FIFO non-compliance
- standard pack discrepancies
- packaging compliance issues
- carrier claims and quality sorts
- Resolve supplier non-conformance issues.
- Issue SPPS and follow up to ensure timely supplier responses.
- Complete annual MOPS audits for all VAA/3P suppliers (off-shift) in partnership with plant IT.
- Perform annual Fire & Safety audits with all VAA/3P suppliers.
- Monitor automated equipment and trailer conditions; ensure repairs, PMs, and inspections are completed promptly to avoid production impact.
- Provide Samsara transportation tracking access to new employees and train them on system functionality.
- Communicate build issues, model mix changes, and broadcast updates to VAA and 3P suppliers.
- Support launch activities by communicating build status and changes to all VAA/3P suppliers.
- Audit non-conforming material and maintain part segregation at supplier locations.
- Ensure all ad-hoc transportation moves support production and accurately charge associated costs.
- Conduct people-resource audits at contracted VAA suppliers to ensure contractual compliance.
- Support BPD board processes, attend scheduled meetings, and report on assigned metrics.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience
- Ability to understand and assess complex supply chain issues
- Strong understanding of supply chain operations
- Ability to work 2nd shift and overtime as needed
- Experience working with internal departments (Materials, Quality, Maintenance, Production)
- Background in transportation or conveyance
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with VAA, 3P, and GM operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of GMS
- Materials background
