Job Description

As a valued contributor to our team you will be responsible for developing and executing a targeted business development strategy focused on engaging 50-60 small and emerging home builders operating in markets adjacent to Fannie Mae's traditional financial services partners. This incumbent will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic connector, identifying opportunities to expand market participation, enhance alignment with Fannie Mae products and initiatives, and drive sustainable growth in underserved and emerging segments of the housing market.

The Principal, Single Family Market Engagement - Business Development role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Strategic Market Development
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive engagement strategy for a defined portfolio of small to mid-size home builders and affiliated companies.
  • Identify growth opportunities in adjacent and emerging market segments that complement Fannie Mae's existing lender and financial institution relationships.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and builder needs to inform strategic outreach and positioning.
  • Relationship Management & Advisory
  • Establish and deepen executive-level relationships with builder principals, leadership teams, and affiliated business partners.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by providing insights on Fannie Mae programs, products, and strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate connections between builders and appropriate Fannie Mae stakeholders, lender partners, and industry participants to enable access to capital and program participation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across Single Family, Capital Markets, Credit, Risk, and Policy to align engagement strategies with enterprise objectives.
  • Provide market intelligence and feedback from builders to inform product development, policy considerations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify solutions that address builder constraints, operational challenges, or emerging opportunities.
  • Business Development & Impact
  • Drive measurable outcomes related to market participation, product adoption, and expansion into adjacent housing channels.
  • Develop pipeline visibility and engagement metrics to assess portfolio health and business impact.
  • Represent Fannie Mae at industry events, builder forums, and trade associations to strengthen market presence and brand reputation.

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in housing finance, real estate development, homebuilding, or related financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, relationship management, or market expansion roles.
  • Strong understanding of the residential construction ecosystem and small builder operating models.
  • Proven ability to build executive-level relationships and influence without direct authority.
  • Experience working with small or emerging home builders and affiliated entities.

Desired Experiences:

  • Deep knowledge of the single-family mortgage market and secondary market dynamics.
  • At least 10 years of experience in housing finance, real estate development, homebuilding, or related financial services
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent executive communication and presentation skills.

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
