Job Description

As a valued contributor to our Internal Audit Analytics and Modeling team, you will serve as a coach, mentor, and subject matter expert who advances product and initiative workstreams through analytical insight, product and change recommendations, and predictive modeling. You will apply deep expertise in advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, large-scale data processing, computational programming, and practical problem solving, while translating complex technical concepts for non-technical partners and stakeholders.

In this advisor role, you will partner across Audit, Technology, Enterprise AI, data science, and risk organizations to architect reusable capabilities on a unified platform. These capabilities will strengthen risk detection, continuous monitoring, evidence generation, and control risk insights reporting. You will also help shape the organization's strategy for applying analytics, modeling, AI, and data science to deliver data-driven insights and sound business judgment. Working with senior leadership, you will provide expert guidance on complex models and analytical tools in a well-governed manner and help advance business transformation and innovation.

The Internal Audit - Analytics and Modeling - Advisor role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, and data science techniques to design, test, and validate audit solutions aligned with audit methodology and industry best practices.
  • Translate complex mathematical, business, risk, and modeling logic into reusable workflows that strengthen audit assurance, continuous monitoring, timely risk detection, and evidence generation at scale.
  • Collaborate with Audit, Technology, Enterprise AI, data science, risk, and platform partners to build unified, reusable analytical and predictive capabilities supported by documentation and governance.
  • Advise Audit executives, senior leadership, auditors, and business stakeholders by translating complex analysis into actionable insights, recommendations, and executive-ready presentations.
  • Develop and guide emerging analytics, AI, modeling, and data science capabilities that solve complex business and technical problems and inform the team's technical direction.
  • Assess model effectiveness, fitness for use, performance, limitations, and drivers; ensure models are appropriately tested, monitored, and aligned with usage goals.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the model management lifecycle, including prioritizing requirements, vetting adjustments, resolving findings, and escalating issues as needed.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and internal standards while supporting compliance and promoting a model risk management culture grounded in accountability, transparency, and proactivity.
  • Represent the Analytics team in key internal, regulatory, and industry forums, sharing best practices and thought leadership in analytics and modeling across Fannie Mae's business.

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences

  • 6 years of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience applying advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods to deliver actionable insights and improve efficiency within Audit or Risk functions, with a strong understanding of audit analytics and assurance practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, data science, and machine learning techniques.
  • Extensive experience developing advanced analytics solutions and workflows.
  • Master's degree in Data Science, Math, Statistics, or Engineering or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills to support testing, validation, and business decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to coordinate effectively between model developers and model users.
  • Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.

Desired Experiences

  • PhD preferred in Data Science, Economics, Math, Statistics, or a related field, or comparable years of experience.
  • Experience in Audit, Risk Management, and highly regulated industries.
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as regression, anomaly detection, outlier analyses, random forests, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships across cross-functional teams.
