Description
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Act as a technical lead for platform-owned microservices, setting architectural direction and best practices.
- Design, evolve, and improve scalable, resilient, and secure microservices architectures on AWS.
- Own and continuously improve existing platform services, addressing performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Make and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to stakeholders and partner teams.
- Contribute to and shape the technical roadmap for the platform engineering team.
Hands-on Engineering
- Write high-quality, production-ready C#/.NET code using modern engineering practices.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and asynchronous, event-driven systems.
- Lead by example through code contributions, PR reviews, and design reviews.
- Ensure services meet non-functional requirements such as availability, latency, observability, and security.
- Drive test quality through unit, integration, and automated testing.
Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Design and operate cloud-native services using AWS, including:
- ECS / Fargate
- Auto Scaling
- SNS / SQS
- DynamoDB
- S3
- Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies to enable safe, fast, and repeatable releases.
- Champion Infrastructure-as-Code, observability, and operational excellence.
- Partner with security teams to embed security controls and tooling into platform services.
Engineering Excellence & Mentorship
- Coach, mentor, and support engineers across experience levels.
- Lead onboarding for new engineers and help raise the overall technical bar of the team.
- Promote best practices around clean code, testing, documentation, and operational readiness.
- Actively contribute to engineering standards, ways of working, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaboration & Influence
- Work closely with product engineering teams to understand their needs and unblock delivery.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to align platform capabilities with business goals.
- Influence engineering decisions beyond your immediate team through expertise and leadership.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
- Strong experience with C# and .NET Core (6.0+)
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture
- Strong grounding in object-oriented design and SOLID principles
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised workloads
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Strong testing mindset (xUnit, NSubstitute; TDD is a bonus)
AWS & Cloud (Mandatory)
- Proven hands-on experience with AWS, including:
- ECS / Fargate
- Auto Scaling
- SNS / SQS
- DynamoDB
- S3
- Experience designing event-driven and distributed systems
- CI/CD pipeline experience (e.g. CodePipeline, GitHub Actions)
Leadership & Ways of Working
- Experience leading technical discussions, designs, and reviews
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills
- Experience working in agile delivery teams
- Comfortable balancing hands-on delivery with leadership responsibilities
Desirable (Nice to Have)
- Experience with integration and automation testing tools (Postman, Cypress, Nightwatch)
- Knowledge of cloud security tooling (Veracode, AquaSec, Rapid7, etc.)
- Experience with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing)
- Exposure to platform or enablement teams in a microservices environment
