Experian Africa operates in a complex regulatory environment across South Africa and Lesotho. The Governance and Regulatory Affairs Manager plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our license to operate, enabling responsible growth, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and governance frameworks. This role is essential to maintaining constructive relationships with regulators, ensuring corporate governance excellence, and supporting strategic legal initiatives.

What you'll need to bring to the party

• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills (must have ability to foster constructive relationships)

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Experience using statistical and database software.

• Proven experience in regulatory affairs, governance, and company secretarial functions.

• Maintaining an understanding of legislation and corporate governance codes affecting South Africa and Lesotho including, POPIA, NCA, Companies Act, King IV/V, and other relevant legislation.

• Ability to lead regulatory inspections and manage responses.

• Experience in preparing board packs, statutory filings, and maintaining governance records.

• Board and Committee Performance Reviews.

• Review of Board Charters and Committee Terms of Reference.

• Presentation and/or training of fiduciary duties of directors.

• Strategic mindset with the ability to identify regulatory changes and advise accordingly.

• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team.

• Proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented.

What you'll be doing

• Lead regulatory affairs and credit-bureau regulatory compliance obligations.

• Maintaining a Regulatory Universe and the development of Compliance Risk Plans

• Act as Company Secretary for Experian South Africa and Lesotho entities.

• Ensure compliance with King IV/V governance practices and statutory registers.

• Coordinate industry positions and comment letters; prepare briefings for GC/ExCo.

• Manage regulatory inspections, responses, and remediation tracking.

• Maintain regulatory calendar and evidence packs.

• Liaise with the key Regulators such as the National Credit Regulator and Central Bank of Lesotho.

• Support the development and execution of the legal department's strategic initiatives.

• Participate in combined assurance forums and regulatory working groups.

• Perform special duties and projects as assigned by the General Counsel.

Qualifications

  • A professional qualification in Law, Governance, or Compliance.
  • 6-10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, governance, or legal advisory roles.
  • Admission as an attorney or advocate is advantageous
  • Certification in company secretarial practice or governance (e.g., Chartered Secretary) is advantageous
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and legal technology tools
