Vice President of Engineering, Power Conversion & Controls
Eaton Corporation is hiring a Vice President of Engineering, Power Conversion & Controls. This position can be based in several Eaton hub locations; preferably Menomonee Falls, WI; Moon Township, PA; or Raleigh NC.
Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Sr VP R&D, Intelligent Power Management Solutions & CTO Electrical Sector, the Enterprise Center of Excellence (CoE) Leader will develop and implement Eaton's CoE pillar for Power Conversion and Controls. The role will advance technology strategy and provide overall direction for creating platform technology for the next generation of intelligent power management solutions across Electrical and Industrial Sector. The Enterprise CoE Leader will have overall responsibility for identifying and driving state of the art technology platforms in areas such as Power Electronics & Electromagnetic Machine Design, Energy Storage Devices (Battery, Embedded Electronics Design), Energy Control Systems (ECS) and Direct Current Technologies.
The VP will partner directly with the sector's business leaders and engineering teams on business unit critical programs, providing resources, technology and engineering method expertise to quickly deliver high quality solutions to market. This person will also partner with marketing and engineering in developing capabilities in the growing power management environment through building greater controls and sophistication into Eaton's products.
Essential Functions:
• Creating strong partnerships with engineering leaders to implement the use of common platform technologies and state of the art engineering methods within their critical programs. Understanding the areas of technical commonality and unique market / customer differences will be critical to establishing common sector wide technology platforms. Success factors include increasing BU engineering capabilities, reuse of technology components and increased time to market.
• Build highly skilled global teams focused on key technology growth areas required for power conversion and controls technology leadership.
• Develop partnerships with leading technology organizations (universities, national labs, private organizations) to ensure a healthy pipeline of new technologies and talent into the R&D organization.
• Ensure key engineering objectives are met including customer satisfaction, time to market, project cost and product standard cost.
• Drive the pursuit of innovative products that meet the needs of the business, ensuring the world class level execution.
• Identify, coach and retain engineering talent
• Ensure financial reporting is accurate and projects are executed within allocated budgets.
• Continue to drive the migration of innovation initiatives from the company's classical core technologies to more advanced technologies in controls, power electronics and analytics to manage the transformation of technology focus from component development to integrated systems.
• Guide the CoE technology strategy while taking a holistic view of the individual business needs across the sector, the dynamics of their industries and the marketplace, the activities of key competitors, and the product and service requirements of customers.
• Build a strategic engineering footprint and talent strategy across Eaton to ensure the organization has the right capabilities, skills, and resources in optimal locations to support long-term growth and innovation objectives.
• Leverage digital engineering methodology and AI to create digital models and simulations of Eaton's solutions, enabling demonstration and replication of operational performance to accelerate innovation, reduce development cycles, and enhance customer engagement.
• Mature emerging technologies through defined technology readiness levels (TRL) to ensure they are validated, and ready for integration into new product development programs
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years of direct R&D experience in the electrical/software industry
• Minimum of 5 years in a managerial position with the demonstrated ability to act decisively based upon data and experience

Position Criteria:
• History of creating and managing a portfolio of high tech projects, defining project scopes, developing and monitoring timelines and budgets for on-time and on-budget delivery.
• Demonstrated experience in leading new technology efforts from inception to transition to a customer organization, driving program deliverables, identifying and resolving technical issues.
• Thorough understanding of the product development process with the ability to manage commercial expectations and project timelines.
• Experience in leading globally dispersed development and quality assurance teams.

• An undergraduate degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred.

• Eaton recognizes this role as a critical position within the corporation and will create a compelling package consisting of a base salary, employee incentive compensation, including long term incentive and complete benefits

The expected annual salary range for this role is $203000 - $297000 a year. This role is also eligible for a variable incentive program.
