Sr Product Engineer

What you'll do:

Participates in the development, testing, documentation, and launch of new products within the low-voltage and power conversion product lines. Leads troubleshooting activities for digital and analog electronic circuits on electronic assemblies. Owns electronic and mechanical responsibility from product concept through launch and ongoing support. Contributes to requirements definition, design reviews, and cross-functional development processes. Continuously evaluates emerging technologies and materials to ensure product integrity and enable rapid and reliable deployment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Oversee the revision and compliance of product requirements specifications (including special characteristics) based on input from customer OEMs and design drawings
B. Participates in the definition of product requirements specifications when required, including but not limited to, involvement on the Core Documents (PFMEA, CP, FD) definition and review of new and existing product lines
C. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop innovative products that meet defined product specifications, quality standards, and performance targets
D. Conduct testing of all new products in accordance with Mobility standards, customer requirements or Design Engineering specifications
E. Complete appropriate technical documentation
F. Participate in the launch of new product line extensions following a stage-gate process (i.e., PRO Launch, an APQP like process)
G. Investigate and analyze new materials and their appropriate use within our product line, alongside with defining the proper validation requirements and considering agencies and customer's requirements
H. Support to outside design resources, like Eaton Pune and KPIT, when appropriate (e.g. software customer requirements, technical drawings revisions and updates, required tests)
I. Provide support to outside suppliers (part substitutions, test strategies, new suppliers validations and technical inquiries)
J. Participate on the definition of test strategies and procedures for both validation and production test-electronic and environmental
K. Component selection and definition for obsolete and low volume materials
L. Conduct product analysis on repetitive line issues failures and field claims, as a supporting member
M. Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with key customers and vendors
N. Actively participates on cost out activities and initiatives from Product Engineering standpoint
O. Develop, lead, and promote a culture in the organization that supports the expected results in the Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental system (MESH).
P. Maintain a waste segregation culture.
Q. Separate hazardous waste from the normal trash
R. Place waste according to the assigned containers.
S. Maintain your area clean and free of contaminants.
T. Maintains an awareness of avoiding waste of water or electricity.
U. Reports any activity that can put in risk anyone's safety and or our environment.
V. Identify and give adequate disposition to all chemical products, which can contaminate the environment.
W. Act/Report immediately any chemical discharge case.
X. Ensure the rights containers for disposition of hazardous waste (identifying containers and containers to prevent discharge)

Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years' experience in product sustaining in electrical and electromechanical products
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, eletronics, mechatronics or related Engineering
  • Electric and electronic product knowledge - small signal electronics, low/high voltage materials selection
  • Automotive background preferred
  • Good understanding of commercial vehicle markets and the environmental requirements and related qualification testing required
  • Electronic tools knowledge: Gerber files and schematics interpretation, Oscilloscope, power supply, etc
  • Software tools knowledge: (AVR studio, Microchip and Atmel SR Micro programming tools)
  • Mechanical knowledge: basics of plastics mechanical properties, GD&T understanding
  • Problem solving techniques, ability to perform a root cause analysis and make the appropriate report
  • Creating and maintaining electronic documentation for manufacturing.
  • Product testing definition (test labs request, validation of test equipment developments, creating test strategies for both validation and production testing, writing procedures and reports)
  • Working knowledge of North American vehicle operating environment (electrical and mechanical).
  • Working knowledge of automotive serial data protocols (J1939, J1587, J1708, LIN).
  • Maintaining various software tools (C compilers, programming environments, programming stations, serial data networks).
  • Supervising other engineering tasks (assembly drawings, PCB layout, software development, validation testing)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
