Senior Project Engineer
Eaton's IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer. This is a full time role, based at our Aerospace manufacturing plant in Orchard Park, NY.
Eaton Mission Systems in Orchard Park has approximately 400 employees and is a leader in the design, manufacturing, and testing of high precision Aerospace life saving devices, pneumatic systems, military and space applications.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year.

Job Summary
Eaton's Mission Systems Division is currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer. This position is based at our Orchard Park, NY facility supporting research and new product development.The engineer performs project engineering work from design to implementation, communicates expectations, plans, and requirements, and coordinates all work within the scope of assigned projects. The individual serves as a consultant across the site, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist various projects, processes, and functional groups. The engineer contributes effectively towards team goals, has cross functional influence, and works beyond routine nature of tasks utilizing specialized knowledge to support internal and external customers. They are often the Technical Leader for large projects or multiple small projects. The engineer works with limited supervision, has strong technical skills, proactively seeks support from Chief Engineers or Subject Matter Experts, and can adapt and react quickly to internal and external customer demands.
Job Responsibilities
• Coordinate and execute product design and development activities within an integrated product development team and in accordance with project cost and schedule constraints.
• Develop project plans for development activities including defining tasks, resource requirements, design review inputs and outputs, and qualification and verification plans.
• Manages the engineering portion of the integrated master schedule, including corrective action for delinquent tasks and mitigation actions for high risk or critical tasks.
• Prepare design specifications, engineering analysis reports, and technical presentations. Review documentation produced by other engineers to ensure completeness and quality.

• Works within team to develop predictive performance models and develops plans to verify models. Able to perform analysis within their technical domain and can lead analysis-led design changes (performance, stress, thermal, fluid flow) using the analysis results.
• Manage technical and programmatic risk through exhaustive identification, prioritization of risk mitigation activities, and data driven design changes where appropriate.
• Develop engineering standards and design guides to support continuous improvement of the relevant engineering domain.
• Work to Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles including careful management of Critical to Quality requirements through the design lifecycle, rigorous knowledge building of the design space, understanding of the effects of manufacturing variation, and design for manufacturing and assembly to meet product recurring cost targets during the design phase.
• Work directly with the external customer and ensure their wants and needs are correctly represented and thoroughly managed on the program while also seeking to maintain Eaton's commercial position.
• Work with suppliers, program managers, design engineers, test engineers, sustainment engineers, Centers of Excellence, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and other functions to develop systems and products.
• Coach junior engineers on Project Engineering best practices.
Basic Qualifications:
BASIC (Required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
- 3+ years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.
- This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Technical knowledge
• Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems and looks beyond the obvious.
• Strong understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T
• Demonstrated track record of successfully applying several of the following engineering principles:
- Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards, regulations, and certifications
- DFSS or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools
- Failure investigations of technical products or systems
- Project Management principles, both waterfall and agile
- Design methodology behind high pressure pneumatic or hydraulic systems
- Oversite and comprehension of stress analysis (static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, acceleration, etc.)
- Steady state performance modeling
- Dynamic performance modelling (mass spring systems, acceleration, etc.)
Soft skills
• Demonstrated technical leadership skills working with a cross-functional team.
• Ability to work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a technical leader, Program Manager, or Engineering Manager.
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication for a strong presence with internal customers and especially with the external customer.
• Develops new and unique ideas; easily makes connections among previously unrelated notions; tends to be seen as original and value-added in brainstorming settings.
