Product Line Engineering Manager - Hydraulic Power Distribution
Eaton's IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Product Line Engineering Manager - Hydraulic Power Distribution at our Los Angeles, California location! With almost 300 employees, the Los Angeles facility designs and manufactures quality valves, regulators, and other fluid controls used mostly by the Aerospace Industry.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $168000 - $247000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you'll do:
This position is responsible for effective leadership, administration, and professional direction of the site's engineering team. This individual will be responsible for short and long-range product development and to improve reliability, performance, and cost for existing product lines through sound execution of engineering principles and processes. The position also coordinates support to and from division and group engineering beyond the immediate site. Accountabilities under this individual's direction are Engineering Production and Aftermarket Support, New Product Development, and Research & Development.
This position is responsible for the oversight of the designing of new products and commercialized solutions to support customers' technical requirements for the Fuel & Motion Control Systems Division (FMC). The product line is comprised of Hydraulic Power Distribution and Controls components and subsystems which includes, but is not limited to, Reservoirs, Control Valves, Filtration and Actuation.
In this function you will:
- Lead an engineering department to deliver high quality technical output on time. Provide technical advice and guidance to this team; create opportunities for growth and development. Develop culture and grow employee satisfaction and product expertise.
- Develop organizational capability/capacity and engineering/technical skills among staff to support the site and division strategies and initiatives. Maintain appropriate training programs to assure continuous learning.
- Develop capability for improved engineering techniques that add value to our products. Develop practices for documented technical standards around best practices and using lessons learned.
- Develop and implement processes and tools for engineering tasks consistent with industry best practices. Monitor to assure adherence to defined processes.
- Continuous improvement of resource management, productivity, and first-pass quality. Use of tools including Design for Six Sigma to achieve that end. Budgeting and resource planning. Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly
- Participate in the strategic planning process for the site and the division; maintain site strategic product and technology roadmaps and lead innovations processes supporting those plans.
- Assure that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to cost performance, quality, and reliability. Maintain visibility to and relationships with customers' technical teams.
- Participate in Hydraulics and Actuation engineering leadership team. Ensure that potential synergies between the site and other divisional, group, and global engineering sites are identified.
- Operates as a key site leadership team member including participation in the site leadership team meetings and initiatives. Close liaison with the operating organization to ensure high-quality product integrity and year-over-year manufacturing and product cost reductions
- Leads profit planning efforts across the product line engineering and technology function and manages the activity center budgets throughout the period of performance. Responsible for planning and execution to budget and resource plans.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
• Minimum 10 years' experience in engineering in an aerospace manufacturing environment
• Minimum 5 years' experience in product development
• Minimum 5 years' of direct MOP (manager of people) experience
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Preferred:
• Masters degree in engineering and/or business management is desirable
• 15+ years' of engineering experience with progressing career responsibilities
• 5+ years' experience managing managers of people
• Experience with hydraulic systems or products preferred
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members
• Six Sigma for Design and Development (SSDD) or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) certification
