Operations Fitter Apprentice
What you'll do:
Eaton's four year Fitter Apprenticeship offers an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic, self motivated, and ambitious individuals to gain hands on experience across a range of engineering shop floor disciplines. You will work from engineering drawings and technical documentation to carry out assembly, installation, testing, and fault diagnosis, building strong practical skills from day one.
By the end of the programme, you will complete the Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Technical Certificate and the mandatory End Point Assessment. Graduates of the scheme progress into permanent roles with the knowledge and capabilities needed to become fully qualified Mechanical Fitters, with opportunities for continued development.
Role Summary
As a Fitter Apprentice, you will follow a personalised development plan designed to support your learning across Operations. You will receive tailored technical training and undertake shop floor placements that provide practical exposure to mechanical and electrical systems within the aerospace industry, particularly Air to Air Refuelling and Actuation.

Year 3
You will be primarily based at Eaton in Wimborne, with one day per week at college to complete the final year of the Level 3 qualification. Rotations will last 3 - 4.5 months across a variety of Operations areas, helping you expand your knowledge and skills. Typical placements include:
- UK Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Aftermarket repair services
Year 4
Your final year is spent full time on site in a year long placement within a team aligned to your demonstrated strengths and interests. During this period, you will continue to build your portfolio in preparation for the End Point Assessment, an independent evaluation confirming that you have achieved the required skills, knowledge, and behaviours. This final placement allows you to consolidate what you've learned and confidently transition into a full time career.
