Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Eaton's Fluid & Electrical Distribution Division in the Aerospace Group is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead manufacturing engineering at our Middlesex, NC location. Relocation assistance is available to Middlesex from within the US. Minimal travel is expected (~10%).

The expected annual salary range for this role is $130000 - $190000 a year.

What you'll do:

Our Middlesex site is a vertically-integrated site with over 100 people working shifts across 7 days. The team at this site manufactures hydraulic hoses mostly for the aerospace industry. Recently, an investment was announced to expand the site along with hiring additional headcount to enable more efficient warehousing and distribution.

In this role, you will report to the Plant Manager and will manage a team of ~8 people. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the Manufacturing Engineering Department at the facility. You will actively support and strive to meet the strategic goals set by yourself, the facility, and Eaton Corporation.

Responsibilities:
• Supervise product, process, plant, manufacturing, assembly, and engineering projects with the goal to improve process capabilities, improve yield, drive down cost, and reduce waste in the manufacturing process.
• Direct annual budget preparation through the development of capital projects/expenditures. Manage capital projects and funding.
• Manage engineering staff members to achieve plant objectives, ensuring milestones and budgets are met. Delegate project workloads and allocate resources to accomplish desired results.
• Manage the qualification of new products and raw materials to be incorporated into production.
• Assist in interviewing and selecting applicants for vacant positions within the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
• Assist all departments with improving Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Flex Productivity. Accomplish this through many means, such as capital expenditures, process check documentation, value stream mapping, RIE/kaizen events, process improvements, manufacturing recommendations, capacity improvements, etc.
• Participate in production decisions involving new and existing product lines to assess/improve equipment and capacity.
• Establish and maintain an environment conducive to continuous improvement in manufacturing. Recommend alternatives for improving production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. Work closely with cross functional continuous improvement teams.
• Take responsibility for all engineering related communication flow and coordination among resources to ensure cost, quality, and delivery objectives are met (internal, external, sales/marketing, engineering, design, etc.).
• Promote effective employee relations by providing leadership, coaching, and development to engineering staff.
• Participate in problem-solving meetings, resolve employee concerns, and make employment-related decisions as needed.
• Ensure that all regulatory standards and company policies are understood, supported, and followed by engineering personnel and on the production floor.
• Evaluate reports, decisions, and results of departmental concerns in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvement in production efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

Basic (required) Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
• Minimum 5 years of professional manufacturing engineer experience within a plant/factory

Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of people management experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience in lean manufacturing and six sigma
• Background in industrial/hydraulic hose preferred
• Experience within a complex, multinational organization
• Ability to relocate beyond this location in the future helpful

Working Conditions:
• Physical Effort
Almost continuously sitting or standing/walking. Sometimes required to stoop, climb, or lift/carry equipment or material of moderate weight. Occasionally may perform work in confined spaces and/or awkward positions.

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions may produce discomfort on occasion, e.g. dust, moderate noise.
• Sensory Attention
Regular need to give close attention, hearing, seeing, and/or touching, to surroundings.
• Mental Stress
Continuous pressure of strong demand for results, multiple demands made simultaneously for important decisions/actions.

Safety Responsibilities:

• Bring health and safety issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management's attention and correct those they can.
• Actively participate in accident, injury, and illness prevention activities:

o Assist in developing job safety analysis and safe working procedures.
o Identify and correct hazards and unsafe conditions.
o Participate in accident, near-miss accident, or potential hazard investigations.

• Actively participate in health and safety training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
• Participate actively in providing suggestions for health and safety program improvement.
