Lead Engineer - Metallurgy

What you'll do:

Eaton Research Labs at Eaton India Innovation Center is looking for a Lead Engineer - Materials to be part of their Center for Materials and Manufacturing. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research and developing technologies to provide solutions on materials and metallurgical process selections to support Eaton's product development.

-Identify Materials and Mfg. process solutions focusing on product developments while ensuring supply chain assurance for Electrification and Energy Transition industry
-Design and execute process development strategies in collaboration with suppliers including casting, wrought, powder metallurgy, coating, joining, etc.
-Design experiments, perform failure analysis, root cause investigation, and continuous improvement using metallurgical knowledge
-Collaborate with product design and advanced manufacturing team to align material requirements with system-level requirements
-Responsible for making disposition on PPAP, non-conforming, and off-standard materials
-Write technical reports, develop high-quality presentations to communicate to higher leadership, and interact with geographically distributed internal business units to provide material solutions as troubleshooter through in-person visits in plants and auditing suppliers
-Interact with national labs, universities, and consortiums to jointly develop and evaluate Mfg process and materials
-Create and enforce standardized procedures and specifications through documentation aligned with business needs
-Develop proposals and present new ideas to business to secure funding
-Problem-solving across the spectrum of innovation, development, and implementation of material and Mfg. process technologies that can increase product performance, life/durability, and/or reduce product cost
-Develop strong business relations across the organization to understand critical business problems that require materials and manufacturing-based solutions
-As technical lead, use program management skills and practices to coordinate activities with other engineering resources, cross-functional teams, external partners, and ecosystem to ensure timely completion of the project milestones utilizing our internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews
-Actively contribute high-quality IP that has business and technology importance
-Participate and present in internal innovation and ideation events and mentor junior team members
-Leverage lab equipment for advanced material characterization and microstructural analysis for research as well as to support business groups for cost-out, root cause analysis, qualifying new suppliers and materials to manufacture prototypes and production parts
-Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
-Provide timely communications to leadership on significant issues or developments

Qualifications:

B.Tech in Material Science or Metallurgy with 10+ years of experience, or M.Tech in Material Science or Metallurgy with 8+ years of relevant experience

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of Physical metallurgy of Non ferrous metals such as Copper, Aluminum, Precious metal alloys and composites, plating and coating process, Contact Materials, Mechanical metallurgy, Structure-Property correlations, advanced characterization including EBSD, WDS, XRD, Metallurgical manufacturing processes
• Exposure of supply chain issues for non ferrous metals, supplier development and audit, Process development and optimization (Casting, extrusion, Powder metallurgy etc.)

• Self-motivated; Passionate to bring own ideas to applications.
• Networking ability across organization to understand critical business problems that require materials and manufacturing based solutions
• Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
• Good interpersonal skills - flexibility to adapt to persons with different geographical, ethnic, educational backgrounds.
• Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills while handling multiple projects
