Lead Design Engineer - New Product Introduction

Eaton's ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer - New Product Introduction. This position will be based at our facility in Sumter, SC. We are offering relocation assistance for candidates who reside within the U.S.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you'll do:

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for the achievement of standardization of engineering systems across the Eaton Panelboard and Switchboard product line operations. They will develop best-in-class products through state-of-the-art control wiring CAD systems. This role is also responsible for providing technical expertise on power distribution control circuits. The Lead Design Engineer is also responsible for supporting each of the nineteen Panelboard and Switchboard operational sites (Sumter, Juarez, El Paso, and 16 Satellites) with regard to the design accuracy of new product that they launch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Be the subject matter expert for control wiring and harness development
• Work with other divisions to develop automation around EPLAN schematics and wiring diagrams from Eaton's Design Automation tool
• Develop, design, validate, and manage the implementation of best-in-class power control circuit designs.
• Ability to translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria.
• Assist in the development of the schedule and budget for new product development projects.
• Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc.
• Design, model, and test product prototypes.
• Maintain and improve existing products through design and competitive analysis.
• Work with other Eaton Electrical businesses as well as outside suppliers to develop new features and design opportunities for products within the product line scope and charter.
• Integrate best practices from each functional team to deliver a high quality, best-in-class design.
• Ensure compliance to all applicable national and local electrical codes and standards as they relate to the products we produce (UL, NEC, NEMA, OSPHD).
• Represent the product line as a lead technical consultant with respect to control wiring.
• You will be a commercial & technical resource for the product line, including answering complex customer or field sales questions.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
• Minimum 2 years of design experience with electrical distribution equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two (2) years of experience designing products under UL 50, UL67, and UL 891 standards
• Two (2) years of experience with EPLAN software package
• Two (2) years of experience with Autodesk Inventor
• Certification for Design for Six Sigma

Skills:

POSITION CRITERIA:

• Good verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem-solving skills. Work with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment.
• Proficiency in Engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor & Enovia)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor
• Knowledge of Product Life-cycle management systems and their structure
• Fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum
• Proper bus joint design
• Up to 10% of your time traveling

Expected to work with some degree of independence and make decisions that affect the workgroup. Focus efforts on attaining assigned goals and objectives, which include meeting needs and expectations of internal and external customers. Must be able to successfully manage multiple priorities, analyze complex problems and implement solutions.
Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel at all management, professional, and technical levels. This position requires a high level of responsiveness and proactive problem solving to reinforce enterprise wide goal of providing world class customer satisfaction. Must be team oriented and self-starter with strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
