Internship: Material Planner (4 to 6 month)- Edmonton, AB, Canada
What you'll do:
Edmonton Power Center (EPC), Eaton Electrical is seeking an Intern - Material Planner to join our team for a 4 to 6 - month term. This position is based at our Edmonton, AB facility.
The hourly range for this role is $20-$25 per hour. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Position Overview:
Responsible for ensuring material availability, managing inventory levels, supporting production schedules, and driving cost reduction initiatives. This role involves analysis, reporting, and close collaboration with purchasing, suppliers, and internal teams to maintain efficient material flow and optimize sourcing strategies.
Essential Functions:
A. Material Planning
- Create and adjust material orders to align with stocking policies and Master Schedule Plan.
- Review, maintain, and approve buy queue/MPS.
- Utilize Kanban processes to ensure material flow and reduce cycle time.
- Communicate material requirements and forecasts with relevant stakeholders

- Source materials for prototypes and new business opportunities from existing suppliers.
- Request quotes for pricing, delivery, and part setup.
- Maintain sourcing data and report on supplier performance and cost trends.
C. Inventory Management & Material Availability
- Analyze and reschedule purchase orders to maintain material availability and control inventory levels.
- Issue and process non-conformance reports, determining appropriate disposition.
- Review and manage depreciated inventory through usage, return to supplier, rework, or scrap.
D. Cost Reduction
- Act as liaison for assigned cost reduction initiatives.
- Track, update, and report results monthly.
- Prepare cost analysis reports and identify opportunities for savings.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Must have recently graduated or be currently enrolled in a college diploma or university degree program with a specialization in Business or Materials Management.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
• Candidates must reside within 120km of Edmonton, AB to be considered.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience using an MRP system
• Experience of working in design-for-manufacturing or an Engineered-to-Order environment
• Experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools, Six Sigma Green, or Black belt
• APICS certification or working towards.

• Strong knowledge of purchasing techniques and supplier management.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong analytical aptitude and complex problem-solving skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (including Excel and Access).
• Strong proficiency using MRP software, Oracle knowledge is an asset.
• Strong technical aptitude of electrical distribution and control systems.
• Effective time management, prioritization, and project management skills.
