What you'll do:
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Product Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting Bussmann manufacturing facilities by enhancing product performance, ensuring the products are compliant to regulatory, agency, and customer requirements. The position will work within the manufacturing facility, and will interface with all functions within organization, including manufacturing, RDE's, quality, marketing, supply chain, and end customers.
Focus on projects minimizing the occurrence of UL Holds and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions. This position will support also products transferences activities on medium voltage fuses and current engineering support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and champion technical solutions for current manufactured products to improve performance and quality based on established business priorities. Ensure the integrity of design and process solutions on Bussmann NPI/NTI programs by supporting technical and design reviews.
- Participate in engineering roadmap sessions, utilizing domain expertise to drive innovation and technology roadmap activities aligned with customer needs.
- Support engineering process continuous improvement efforts by providing technical guidance.
- Works closely with Quality Assurance to ensure all product redesigns meet agency and customer test requirements.
- Champion the evaluation of quality related performance issues of products. Test, verify,
evaluate, and resolve issues in a timely manner to improve the product. - Coordinates with multifunctional team to execute production trial runs to create product prototypes required for customer evaluations, product verification testing, and process validation.
- Generate CR's for improvement or for product design corrections.
- Interface with other sites and support divisional-level technical initiatives.
- Assist the PLS team with strategic and tactical initiatives to support divisional goals, including CONC and UL Holds reduction. Specific tasks include deep dives into product families with significant technical challenges, providing site technical gap analysis of skills and resources, and training and mentoring engineering talent.
- Promote the generation and documentation of new ideas for future patent protection.
- Support cross-divisional communication with other Principal Engineers/experts to help establish common procedures and processes.
- Provide technical support and guidance on all UL Holds activities
- Collaborate with product engineering to provide guidance on validation tests for new suppliers/parts as part of the qualification process.
- Develop and mentor PLS engineers to enhance technical skills within the team.
- Identify new potential methodologies/tools to improve testing and fuse characterization.
- Select "trouble" product families based on past UL Holds performance to identify potential product improvement activities, Pre-UL testing, and CTQs improvements. #LI-DG2
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is a must. Preferable in mechanical/electrical engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience on electromechanical/electrical products support in a manufacturing and product development environment.
- Bilingual with written and oral fluency in Spanish and English.
- Preferable electrical or automotive background.
- Experienced with quality tools, statistical process control, Six-Sigma, problem solving and project management.
- Knowledge of the following systems: MS Office, MS Project, SAP or equivalent ERP software, AutoCAD or equivalent software, Creo or equivalent software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DFSS or Six-Sigma Green Belt
- Strong knowledge of UL and IEC standards
- Extensive knowledge on fuses technologies and standards.
- Master's degree in engineering
- Strong Knowledge in fuse's characterization and tests
