Eaton's Electrical division is currently seeking a Firmware Verification and Automation Manager This position will be located in Raleigh, NC. Relocation will be offered within the United States.

This position will be a hybrid office (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) role as long as you live within 50 miles of our Raleigh, NC facility.

Eaton's Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic-based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. Our employees deliver mission-critical solutions to our customers' most challenging energy management requirements.

Eaton CPS is seeking a Manager, Firmware Verification and Automation to lead global firmware (FW) and system-level verification and test automation for embedded and application software used in power conversion and energy storage products. This is a people and technical leadership role with strong influence on verification strategy, quality outcomes, and team capability development across multiple geographies.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $137,000 - $201,000 a year.

What you'll do:

The Manager, Firmware Verification and Automation is responsible for defining and executing the global verification and validation strategy for embedded firmware and application software across CPS technology development projects. This role leads geographically distributed verification and automation teams, establishes scalable test automation frameworks, and ensures that firmware and system verification activities support business goals for quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction.

While remaining technically engaged, this role focuses primarily on technical leadership, global team management, and cross-functional collaboration, rather than day-to-day individual contributor testing/coding.

Key Responsibilities:

Global Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, develop, and align a globally distributed team of verification and automation engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and career development.
  • Define and evolve firmware and system verification strategies aligned with CPS product roadmaps and global business objectives.
  • Establish common verification standards, processes, and best practices across regions and projects.
  • Build team capability and succession by mentoring technical leads and senior engineers across sites.

Firmware & System Verification Execution

  • Own firmware-focused system-level verification strategies, including functional, performance, regression, integration, and stress testing.
  • Guide the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable automated test frameworks for embedded firmware verification.
  • Provide technical oversight for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) test environments used for FW and control algorithm verification.
  • Ensure effective root-cause analysis of firmware and system test failures in collaboration with embedded software, controls, and hardware teams.

Quality & Delivery

  • Ensure firmware verification plans, test procedures, and results support high-confidence product and FW releases.
  • Review and approve verification work products, including firmware/system verification plans and release readiness artifacts.
  • Estimate effort, plan workloads, and track progress across multiple concurrent global projects.

Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Partner with embedded firmware development, systems engineering, hardware, and program management teams worldwide to ensure alignment on requirements, architecture, schedules, and risks.
  • Participate in firmware architecture, control algorithms, and requirement reviews to ensure testability and quality are built in early.
  • Act as the primary verification interface for global development and technology leadership.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement of firmware verification processes, tools, and methodologies to increase coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Promote automation, metrics, and data-driven decision making within the global verification organization.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years of experience in firmware verification, test automation, or embedded software development with a strong record of delivering high-quality products.
  • 3+ years of people management experience leading global or distributed technical teams.
  • 3+ years of Python-based test automation for embedded or firmware-centric systems experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with system-level testing using HIL-based environments for firmware validation.
  • 2+ years of experience defining and deploying automated firmware/system test frameworks across multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded and real-time control firmware, ideally in power electronics or power conversion products.
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework, pytest, or equivalent.
  • Exposure to MATLAB/Simulink model-based development and closed-loop FW verification.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, MODBUS, or RS-232.
  • Experience working in Agile/SCRUM development environments with global teams.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integration of automated firmware/system tests.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts across cultures and organizational boundaries
