Engineering Manager- Interconnect Technology
What you'll do:
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The product design engineering manager leads a team of product design engineers responsible for: Internal research and development, new product development (NPD/NPI), sustaining engineering for ongoing production, manufacturing sourcing changes, cost out projects, and new business campaigns. He/she is responsible for managing project engineering work from initial scoping through execution and eventual project closure and providing communication on this work to internal and external stakeholders. He/she helps coordinate all work within the scope of assigned projects, managing engineering scope change, risks, and issues working alongside program managers. This role is responsible for functional management activities including hiring, performance management, and talent development. This engineering manager will be responsible for electrical connector, connector accessory, cable assembly, and conduit product design Managing Commercial/ Military/ Civil.. Interconnect Development wiring design projects as well as support in sustaining engineering of these same products.
*This role requires working on-site M-F at our City of Industry, Ca location. If needed, relocation is available for a qualified candidate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Leads engineers assigned to global, cross functional teams and multiple manufacturing locations to support ongoing production, new product launches, and product manufacturing transfers/sourcing. This includes locations in the Americas, EMEAR, and APAC regions.
• Manages teams responsible for, or directly leads, communication with customer engineering teams.
• Manages teams responsible for product design and document changes captured through Engineering Change Orders (ECO's), leveraging Eaton's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
• Manages teams that provide, or directly leads, technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manages teams that provide, or directly provides, technical support to customers, suppliers, internal manufacturing engineers, and internal sales and marketing teams. This includes responsibilities for new and existing projects, assessing non-recurring cost estimates (NRE) and managing project scope changes, developing engineering-specific activity schedules, developing engineering standards, and reviewing/approving technical documents/deliverables.
• Leads teams responsible for the planning and specification of new product requirements, as well as detailed validation and verification plans working alongside a cross-functional team.
• Leads teams responsible for witnessing testing of products and managing test program communication within and external to the enterprise.

• Coordinates, or delegates coordination of, prototype and tooling manufacturing.
• Leads teams responsible for failure analysis including 8D (8 disciplines problem solving), and generally provides guidance on leadership on root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities.
• Leads teams responsible for MRB review of discrepant hardware and assessment of functionality where appropriate/delegated by customers.
• Leads teams, and sets standards for, creation and management of product data in Eaton's PLM (Enovia).
• Responsible for supporting the assessment of jurisdiction and classification of hardware and technical data in accordance with the ITAR and EAR.
• Responsible for talent management for his/her team including promotions, performance management, hiring, and coaching.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications (Required)
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar engineering field from an ABET accredited institution.
• Minimum 7 years of product engineering experience required.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering management experience required.
• Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency in talent management including hiring and development of direct reports.
• Leadership experience including delegation and coaching of direct reports.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration.
• 5+ years experience in engineering management.
• Design knowledge of interconnect components (connectors, backshells /accessories, wiring assemblies) for aviation, aerospace, and industrial markets.
• Experience working with metallic plating's/coatings and non-metallic materials including polymers, ceramics, and glass and graphite composites.
• Experience using Enovia Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) software and Solidworks CAD software.
• Experience in directing product launches in Best Cost Country (BCC) locations in North America.
• Experience in directing product launches in US manufacturing locations for military and or aerospace products.
• Additional Certifications: Lean 6-sigma methods preferred, including Design for Six Sigma (DFSS/SSDD) Green Belt or Black Belt, or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
• Experience leading product qualification programs for mechanical and/or electrical products.
• Ability to interpret and generate 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Knowledge of ECN/ECO (Engineering Change Order or Notification) processes for document change management.
• Ability to complete basic engineering calculations for sizing and design of mechanical components.
• Demonstrated understanding of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Proficiency in Product Data Management or Product Life-Cycle Management (PDM/PLM) systems for document control and workflow management.
• Expertise in leading teams through management of requirements and developing compliance strategy.
