Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a DA/ETO System Architect. This position can be based in Beachwood, OH Moon Township, PA or Raleigh, NC with hybrid work available.
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for defining and communicating a shared architectural vision for a highly integrated engineering automation ecosystem, enabling the organization to support current and future ETO business needs at scale. The role focuses on Design Automation (DA), Engineer-to-Order (ETO) platforms, and deep integration with EPLAN and related engineering tools, spanning multiple applications, services, and data layers.
The System Architect plays a critical role in shaping Eaton's digital engineering and automation landscape, ensuring scalable, performant, and secure automation of engineering workflows-from configuration and calculations through electrical schematics, drawings, and downstream manufacturing and business systems.
They will collaborate closely with Agile product and delivery teams to evaluate solution options, validate architectural assumptions, assess technology tradeoffs, and converge on robust designs. This includes addressing complex challenges related to system integrations, cloud and on-prem coexistence, data flow orchestration, identity and access management, and secure access for internal users, partners, and engineering teams interacting with DA/ETO systems.
Finally, the System Architect will work in close partnership with Enterprise and Solution Architects to ensure solutions align with Eaton's broader architecture guardrails, cloud strategy, and security standards, while enabling long-term scalability, maintainability, and innovation across the DA and ETO platform portfolio.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and participate in the planning, definition, development, and high-level design of complex engineering automation solutions and architectural alternatives, with a primary focus on Design Automation (DA), Engineer-to-Order (ETO) platforms, and EPLAN-centric engineering workflows across a highly integrated application landscape.
  • Enable reliable and scalable delivery pipelines for DA and ETO solutions by defining architectural design guidelines and best practices tailored to engineering automation, drawing generation, and configuration-driven workflows, including cloud and hybrid execution models.
  • Define and communicate system interfaces, data contracts, data models, storage patterns, integrations, cybersecurity controls, test automation strategies, and deployment approaches specific to DA, ETO, and EPLAN integrations, ensuring seamless connectivity across engineering, manufacturing, and downstream enterprise systems.
  • Establish and communicate critical non-functional requirements for DA and ETO platforms, including performance, scalability, availability, security, and resiliency required to support high-volume, globally distributed engineering operations.
  • Consider the impact economic boundaries have on design decisions and operate accordingly, especially in in the context of cloud services, AutoCAD APS usage, EPLAN integrations, infrastructure footprint, and long-term operational costs.
  • Participate in solution planning, PI / incremental planning, system demos, and inspect-and-adapt events, with a strong focus on evolving DA and ETO platform capabilities and their integration with upstream and downstream systems.
  • Plan and develop the architectural runway for DA, ETO, and EPLAN-integrated products, enabling predictable delivery of engineering automation capabilities aligned to business growth and modernization objectives.
  • Provide technical oversight and encourage security, quality, and automation across the DA and ETO ecosystem.
  • Effectively engage with product and business stakeholders to ensure non-functional and architectural work (e.g., platform upgrades, cloud migrations, dependency modernization, security hardening, and technical debt reduction) is appropriately prioritized and sustainably executed.
