Cost Out Lead Engineer
Eaton's EPG CPCD Controls Power Conversion Div division is currently seeking a Cost Out Lead Engineer.
What you'll do:
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary responsibility of this role will be to lead and execute on operations-related activities for top cost out initiatives alongside design engineering, marketing, SCM and the associated manufacturing plants to improve product cost through engineering changes, VAVE, resourcing, insourcing, Etc. with a self-starting, hands on approach. Additionally, the Cost Out Lead Engineer will be responsible for building a pipeline of projects while ensuring existing deck is being executed on critical path actions according to committed schedule. This position will work as part of the ICD cost productivity team in alignment with the overall strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Lead top VAVE projects for the Industrial Controls Division across global sites to completion, using a hands-on approach to engineering-related and other project activities. These are typically products planned to continue future sales, but may not be competitive in the market due to a high base cost.
2. Build and maintain an active pipeline of cost out projects to ensure a healthy pipeline
3. In coordination with marketing, supply chain, and engineering, identify competing products and lead the initiative to gain insight to cost opportunities which may be applied to Eaton products using product tear down analysis.
4. Participate in and lead cross functional VAVE events to identify potential, actionable changes to design, material selection, etc. that lead to cost improvements through the engineering process.
5. Follow cost out projects through to completion, stepping in where needed to execute on engineering-related critical path actions to ensure cost improvement results are delivered. Engineering activities on projects may include, but are not limited to:
a. Documenting design changes via redlines or drawing/model changes
b. Developing new BOM structures
c. Evaluating certification requirements for material, process, or supplier changes
d. Developing and executing test plans to test functionality, reliability (life), PPAPs, manufacturing process compliance, and certification
e. Acquiring samples by ordering direct from supplier.
f. Coordinating Request for Quote packages, pulling drawings and spend detail.
6. Report on cost out project status, progress, and pipeline to all stakeholders.
7. Lead and support cost out projects related to logistics, labor productivity, dual-sourcing, insourcing and CONC.
8. Lead and support using PROLaunch and other PM tools key ICD division projects as needed, including capacity increase, Mfg. line moves, resiliency and sustainability projects.
9. Mentor others on direct and extended teams in cost out/engineering processes and tools.
10. Lead integrated deck building, category spend reviews and engineering cost out events
Responsibilities related to Health, Safety and Environment (EHS):
1. Execute 100% of monthly safety inspection, in coordination with the MESH Coordinator.
2. Assist to all EHS training assigned.

3. Provide all resources needed to ensure that all MESH policies and procedures all performed by his/her personal under his/her supervision.
Qualifications:
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Basic Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering.
2. Minimum 5 years' work experience in engineering or a manufacturing environment, with a strong background in design or maintenance of line of electrical assemblies.
3. Experience with project management fundamentals.
4. Proficiency with many application software packages such MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Enovia, Qlikview, MS SharePoint, CAD design and statistical analysis.
5. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferable
Position Criteria
A. Demonstrated ability to interface and work with Operations and Design Engineering to achieve VAVE cost and/or productivity improvements.
B. Ability to question the status quo and to be open minded and receptive to change.
C. Confident working with senior plant and functional leaders throughout the organization.
D. Understanding of engineering concepts and ability to read engineering documented drawings.
E. Successful candidate will have knowledge of manufacturing processes such as material management, manufacturing operations, cost accounting, quality processes and procedures, project management and Lean manufacturing.
F. Good Communication, presentation, interpersonal and professional presence with internal/external customers and suppliers.
G. Must achieve results through others not directly in reporting structure.
H. Ability to explain and train others on VAVE concepts.
I. Must be a self-starter and able to successfully work independently, using a hands-on approach, with minimal guidance from VAVE Engineering Manager.
J. highly entrepreneurial, self-starting sense of urgency along with a passion for the continuous improvement is desirable, along with a drive to grow both personally and professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
K. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferable
Dimensions:
A. Achieve cost improvements through VAVE equivalent to 6% of COGS for ICD and assigned manufacturing sites.
B. Build 2 year VAVE project pipeline equivalent to 1.5X profit plan cost out goal for assigned manufacturing sites.
C. Develop capital expense proposals in coordination with plant finance for top VAVE projects.
D. Lead functional experts in engineering, marketing and manufacturing plants across assigned sites to achieve savings on top projects.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities:
Position may require up to 30% travel. Candidate must be able to travel across North America, including to Puerto Rico, United States, and Mexico.
