Chief Engineer, Data Center Architect
At Eaton India Innovation Center, is looking for a Chief Engineer, Data Center Architect to join our team in Pune.
Job Summary:
The incumbent will be responsible to execute programs and provide technical leadership in Research and Development of Eaton's Data Center Energy & Cooling products. Lead partnership activities, represent Eaton in global / regional customer and partner engagements, responsible for enhancing the overall knowledge base, technical capability, and best practice development in the field of data center, energy and cooling solutions. Drive a customer-centric approach by actively engaging with clients, develop business approach and build pilots to strengthen collaboration and deliver tailored solutions.
The incumbent must be able to lead the regional growth programs, spot opportunities and work with the frontline team to make this happen and also transfer learnings to benefit programs for global markets. Leader is responsible to identify data center segment growth opportunities in regional market through "Right to Play" and "Right to Win" studies while working with global techno-commercial teams and technology development experts. Role is expected to incubate new technology development projects and mature it to successful business win as part of creating new products and offerings for regional & global data center portfolio. Position will be responsible to drive Customer Intimacy, Frugal Innovation and Speed of Execution.
The candidate will leverage an extensive industry network to foster partnerships across hyperscalers, neoclouds, colocation providers, cloud service providers, and enterprise data centers. This role combines deep technical expertise, strategic insight, and industry presence to accelerate Eaton's position as a global leader in sustainable, high performance computing, and next-generation AI-driven data center infrastructure. Incumbent should establish positive working relations with various local and global stakeholders and cross functional team to facilitate open dialogue and trust building across the organization. The focus should be on standardization of processes and practices that will enable organization to engineer secure, future-proof, optimized solutions, while helping to improve efficiency and productivity in a data-driven framework.

What you'll do:
At Eaton India Innovation Center - Enterprise Engineering organization is looking for Technical leader, who will provide technology leadership for data center segment and enable business growth through new and untapped opportunities. This position is based at our office in Magarpatta City, Pune. The role has to step up to provide leadership and guidance on several new technology & new product development programs as part of data center segment portfolio. Position will also Partner with external customers and internal business leadership to build strategy around future roadmaps:
• Technical leadership : Lead a groups of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in area of energy and cooling domain, ensure system-level vision and integration across these areas.
• Strategic vision : Define and execute the overall data center architecture strategy, aligning with business objectives; deliver robust, future-ready solutions data center segment
• Enables Alignment : Collaborate with SMEs to make critical technologies accessible to system architects, identify gaps, and maintain system-level consistency.
• Represents Eaton : Act as a key representative in strategic customer and partner engagements, conferences, standards bodies, and major account discussions.
• Industry Awareness : Stay informed on research, trends, and emerging technologies impacting the data center segment.
• Technology Reporting : Manage SME inputs and other data streams to deliver comprehensive reports on global data center technology developments.
• Technology Evaluation : Assess third-party hardware and software solutions for compatibility with Eaton's next-generation data center offerings.
• Innovation : Develop technology roadmap to evaluate new technologies and solution. Resolve technical challenges and achieve technology roadmap objectives.
• Responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the data center programs. Industry standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals compliance.
• Relationship Building : Develop partnerships with hyperscalers, neoclouds, colocation providers, cloud service providers, enterprise data centers, and relevent ecosystem
• Engineering Collaboration : Partner with engineering teams on product design, technology development, and project execution.
• Thought Leadership : Contribute through publications, presentations, and active participation in industry consortia such as ASHRAE TC9.9, OCP, TIA, BICSI, and IEEE.
• Executive Communication : Deliver strategic insights and prepare executive-ready presentations to support internal and external decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in mechanical, electrical, electronics engineering or Energy systems
- 20+ years of experience in data center energy systems, electrical infrastructure, cooling or related domains.
- Deep knowledge of data center power architectures (Transformers, SST, UPS, PDUs, Switchgear, MV and LV architectures)
- Deep knowledge of air, liquid, and hybrid cooling systems (CDUs, RDHx, manifolds, chiller plants, heat reuse) for data centers.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability best practices in data centers (energy usage, water use, heat reuse, metrics).
- Strong background in customer interaction, technical presentations, and global account support.
- Demonstrated network across the data center industry (hyperscalers, colocation, OEMs, suppliers, standards bodies).
- Excellent communication skills - comfortable engaging with executives, engineers, and customers alike.
- Track record of publishing, presenting, or contributing to standards/industry consortia (ASHRAE, OCP, IEEE, etc.).
- Familiarity with system design tools and integration with digital twin environments.
- Experience with ECLASS/Ecl@ss systems and relevant certification.
- Experience with advanced visualization ecosystems like USD (Universal Scene Description) and NVIDIA Omniverse.
- Business development or product strategy experience in a technology-driven environment.
