We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Acquisition Analyst to join our growing data team. This individual will play a critical role in expanding our data ecosystem by identifying, evaluating, and acquiring unique and valuable datasets from external sources. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of data valuation, licensing, and the intricacies of sourcing diverse data types, including rich media. You will be instrumental in enabling our product teams, research groups and business units to unlock new opportunities and build innovative solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Strategic Data Sourcing: Proactively identify and engage with external data providers, including companies, research institutions, and specialized third parties, to source novel and high-impact datasets. This includes a particular focus on rich media data (e.g., images, video, audio, interactive content) similar to the types of data that power many of today's experiences on platforms across the entertainment ecosystem.
- Data Valuation and ROI Analysis: Conduct thorough assessments of potential data acquisitions, including quantitative and qualitative valuation, to determine the strategic value, potential ROI, and alignment with business objectives. Understand how to translate the value of prospective data into tangible business outcomes.
- Negotiation and Licensing: Lead negotiations with data providers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for data licensing, usage rights, and intellectual property. Possess a strong understanding of various data licensing models and legal frameworks.
- Due Diligence and Vetting: Conduct comprehensive due diligence on potential data sources, assessing data quality, accuracy, privacy compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and ethical considerations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with internal teams, including procurement, research, engineering, legal, product, and business development to understand data requirements and timely execution of the dataset acquisition process.
- Market Research and Trends: Stay abreast of industry trends in data acquisition, emerging data sources, and advancements in data privacy and compliance. Identify innovative approaches to data sourcing.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with external data partners.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document data acquisition processes, terms, and metadata to ensure clear understanding and accessibility across the organization.
What You'll Bring:
- 5+ years of experience in data acquisition, strategic sourcing, business development, or a related role with a focus on external data acquisition.
- Demonstrated expertise in sourcing unique and niche datasets, with a strong preference for experience with rich media data (e.g., image, video, audio, text, geospatial).
- Proven ability to fair value data assets and understand the economic principles behind data monetization.
- In-depth knowledge of data licensing terms and conditions, intellectual property rights, and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical and business concepts to diverse audiences.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Familiarity with large technology companies' data sourcing strategies to inform our own is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree preferred.
