About the role

This role leads the deployment of Diageo's Process Safety framework across the market, ensuring hazards are understood and risks effectively controlled. Success means strong governance, compliant systems, functioning critical controls and improved Process Safety performance across all sites. The role drives capability, continuous improvement and supports safe business growth.

Role Responsibilities:

The Market Process Safety Lead is responsible for ensuring the full and effective deployment of Diageo's Process Safety Policy and its 20-element framework across all operations in the market. The role provides the technical leadership, governance discipline, and cross-functional capability required to prevent low-likelihood, high-consequence incidents while protecting people, assets, and the environment.

A key responsibility of this position is to strengthen the process safety culture across distillation units, bottling sites, wineries, utilities, warehouses, and other operational areas. This includes coaching teams during technical reviews, supporting frontline engagement initiatives, reinforcing behavioural safety expectations, and ensuring that insights from incidents and audits are communicated clearly and translated into action. By connecting teams to the purpose of process safety, the role helps embed a culture where risks are understood, conversations are open, and controls are consistently applied.

The role ensures compliance with internal engineering standards and local regulatory requirements by working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and HSE teams. This includes reviewing equipment design, ensuring the latest codes and standards are implemented, delivering compliance-related training, monitoring regulatory changes, and maintaining accurate technical documentation. The role also provides technical support for CAPEX projects and process modifications to ensure safe design principles are applied from concept development through commissioning from a process safety perspective.

The position oversees the lifecycle of hazard identification and risk analysis by leading or co-leading PHAs and ensuring that methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, and RCAs are applied consistently. Accurate process safety information (including P&IDs, relief device data, and design bases) is maintained in collaboration with engineering and operations. The role further supports the review of operating procedures, ensures alignment with safe work practices, audits permit-to-work systems, and trains personnel on safe and compliant operations.

Through a structured, disciplined, and data-driven approach to process safety, the role directly contributes to risk reduction, operational resilience, and long-term business sustainability within the market.

Experience / skills required:

• Engineering or related technical degree.

• Minimum 7 years of experience in Process Safety, Engineering, HSE or Operations within high-risk manufacturing environments.

• Fluent English; capable of working effectively with global stakeholders.

• Strong communication skills, able to translate complex technical topics into simple, actionable messages.

• Proven ability to collaborate across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and HSE functions.
