Network Development Negotiation Specialist

The Network Development Negotiation Specialist is a critical member of the Network Development team responsible for supporting provider retention, network stability, and member access. This highly analytical and strategic role focuses on evaluating provider termination requests, developing retention strategies, and leading complex negotiations with participating providers when appropriate.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with effective negotiation and communication skills to make data-driven recommendations, influence outcomes, and support organizational goals. This role works cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and provider partners to ensure financially sound and sustainable network solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute provider retention and negotiation strategies to maintain network adequacy, provider relationships, and member access.
  • Evaluate provider termination and retention cases through detailed analysis of financial, market, utilization, competitive, and operational data.
  • Lead complex, multi-stage negotiations with providers, including facilitation of best-and-final offer discussions and resolution strategies.
  • Translate complex data and business insights into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership decision-making.
  • Present well-reasoned negotiation strategies, financial analyses, and business recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Provider Administration, Contracting, Finance, Operations, and Network Development leadership.
  • Ensure seamless execution from negotiation approval through contract amendment, system implementation, provider administration, and audit review processes.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of negotiation activities, recommendations, approvals, and outcomes.
  • Monitor provider and market trends, competitor activity, and network access considerations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage multiple high-priority cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, adapting messaging to different audiences.
Technology & Tools

This role regularly utilizes:
  • P360 - Primary platform for provider management and negotiation workflows.
  • Network Development Portal - Case intake, assignment, tracking, and retention management.
  • CRM Platform (in implementation) - Workflow management and provider engagement tracking.
  • Excel, Power BI, and Data Analytics Tools - Financial modeling, reporting, analysis, and decision support.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 more years of professional experience in healthcare, network development, provider relations, contracting, analytics, negotiations, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex situations and make sound business recommendations.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data to support decision-making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation of recommendations to leadership.
  • Ability to influence outcomes through effective negotiation, consultation, and relationship management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently in a secure remote environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as business needs require.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in provider contracting, provider relations, network development, or healthcare negotiations.
  • Dental industry experience, including familiarity with provider reimbursement models and dental practice operations.
  • Experience with DHMO, capitation, managed care, or provider network management.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of healthcare provider administration systems and workflows.
  • Familiarity with Current Dental Terminology (CDT) coding and dental benefit structures.
  • Experience navigating multiple systems and technologies within a complex business environment.

    Base Pay Information

    The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications, and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
