Geospatial Engineer
Position Summary
Our Deloitte Strategy & Transactions team helps guide clients through their most critical moments and transformational initiatives. From strategy to execution, this team delivers integrated, end-to-end support and advisory services covering valuation modeling, cost optimization, restructuring, government operations modernization, business design and transformation, infrastructure and real estate, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and sustainability. Work alongside clients every step of the way, helping them navigate new challenges, avoid financial pitfalls, and provide practical solutions at every stage of their journey-before, during, and after any major transformational projects or transactions.
Work You'll Do
Our team is looking for a detail-oriented Data Engineer with strong Python and web scraping skills, deep experience working with federal datasets (Census, BLS, CDC), and hands-on expertise in geospatial and cloud technologies. In addition to core engineering duties, this role includes responsibilities for data stewardship, ensuring datasets are thoroughly described, documented, and consistently updated. All code and documentation are managed via GitHub.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and transforming federal datasets (Census, BLS, CDC, etc.)
• Perform advanced web scraping and data extraction using Python
• Work extensively with Census data (Decennial and ACS) at all geographic levels (national, state, county, tract, block group, etc.)
• Integrate, analyze, and visualize geospatial data using PostGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and other GIS platforms
• Create and maintain comprehensive data descriptions and metadata
• Document data sources, update schedules, and transformation processes Implement and enforce data documentation standards
• Regularly update and maintain datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Manage code repositories and version control using Git and GitHub
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to deliver actionable insights
• Document workflows, processes, and best practices for both data engineering and data management

Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
• 2+ years of experience processing large data sets
• Experience with Geospatial and people data
• Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS and/or GDAL
