Key Responsibilities and Ownership
You will operate as a high-impact technical individual contributor, owning the delivery and operational excellence of critical platform components. Your impact will be driven through deep hands-on development, rigorous design, and technical mentorship.

  • Project Ownership & Design:
    • Take full technical accountability for projects from inception to deployment.
    • Drive and document all technical designs, including High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD).
  • Strategic Alignment:
    • Partner closely with Product to ensure technical designs meet complex business requirements.
    • Collaborate with other Staff Engineers and teams to define and deliver holistic, cross-functional solutions.
  • Full-Stack Development & Expertise:
    • Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade systems with a focus on .NET (C#) for scalable backend services.
    • Hands-on experience with gRPC and REST API development.
  • Data Systems Integration:
    • Design services that deeply integrate with data systems, leveraging Kafka-driven pipelines.
    • Utilize expert knowledge in PostgreSQL and other SQL-based RDBMS.
  • DevOps & Automation (Full Application Lifecycle):
    • Own the full application lifecycle: implementation, testing, deployment via CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub), and production monitoring.
    • Drive quality standards using tools like SonarQube and contribute to infrastructure automation with Terraform.
  • Technical Mentorship & Best Practices:
    • Serve as a technical guide and mentor to peers.
    • Champion best practices for maintainability, testing, observability, and distributed systems design across the team.
  • Innovation & Velocity:
    • Research, propose, and spearhead the adoption of new technologies and AI-assisted tooling (like Cursor AI) to enhance engineering velocity and platform capabilities.
Required Technical Qualifications
  • Experience: 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of significant technical ownership over large-scale systems.
  • Deep .NET Ecosystem Expertise: Extensive, hands-on experience with C# / .NET for building high-performance, scalable backend services.
  • Data and Messaging:
    • Expert SQL skills and hands-on experience with RDBMS like PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
    • Proven experience with event-streaming platforms like Kafka.
  • Full-Stack Capability: Proven ability to deliver large-scale systems end-to-end, including UI and service layers.
  • Communication: Exceptional technical communication skills to effectively drive consensus and document complex technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • API Design Mastery: Strong expertise in designing and implementing robust gRPC and REST APIs for distributed microservices.
  • Cloud & CI/CD:
    • Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
    • Expert-level experience with containerization (Docker) and deploying through CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub).
  • Foundational Excellence: Elite-level understanding of software engineering fundamentals:
    • Distributed systems design, architecture patterns, concurrency, algorithms, and defensive programming.
  • Deep RDBMS Optimization: Proven expertise in PostgreSQL/SQL Server query tuning, indexing, and data partitioning for performance at scale.
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD): Practical experience applying DDD principles to model complex business domains and structure scalable microservices.
  • Advanced Testing Practices: Experience with contract testing (for API boundaries) and implementing automated performance or load testing frameworks.
  • Application and Performance Monitoring (APM): Experience configuring and utilizing platforms like New Relic for proactive alerting, distributed tracing, and root cause analysis.
  • Advanced CI/CD Strategies: Proven experience with advanced deployment patterns (e.g., blue/green, canary releases) and integrating quality gates (SonarQube) into pipelines.
  • Security Best Practices: Practical knowledge of implementing security controls such as OAuth/OIDC, JWT handling, and addressing common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
  • Familiarity with asynchronous, event-based architectures (e.g., event sourcing, Saga patterns).
  • Experience with agile methodologies and acting as the technical authority within a development team.
Education: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience.

The typical pay range for this role is:$106,605.00 - $284,280.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
