Product Quality Specialist
Job Summary:
Leads the Plant Product Quality Council process to improve quality, reduce warranty payments, and improve customer satisfaction across multiple plants or for a business unit.
Key Responsibilities:
Directs multiple teams that plan, track, and report on delivered quality and reliability of products or subsystems produced in a plant. Ensures that all issues as reported through corrective action requests, supplier corrective action requests, or nonconforming materials reports are addressed in a timely and cost-effective manner. Solves highly complex quality issues as they are escalated. Establishes processes and tools to improve functional excellence in the prevention of failures. Networks with other Product Quality Council Leaders to understand trends within the organization and to solve cross-business unit and cross-functional quality challenges. Identifies and coaches resources necessary to achieve long-term and short-term business goals. Identifies and defines emerging or potential problems and prioritizes effective containment through work with product quality teams. Identifies and works with functional areas to ensure that adequate resources are available and other issues are resolved to deliver on-time and contain costs. Develops, leads, and mentors teams focused on product quality and improvement. Reviews post-implementation exercises to implement improvement suggestions and leverage identified strengths across the organization. Competencies:

Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, "Metrology" e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.
Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.
Project Management - Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, schedule and resources for a temporary effort (a "project"). Ensures results/impact from temporary effort are fully realized as possible.
Quality Leadership (Cummins Operating System) - Demonstrates knowledge of and practices the principles of the Cummins Operating System (COS); translates the principles of COS to the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) to assess performance against customer and business requirements; to create a right environment and Quality culture, and seeks and actions opportunities for continuous improvement with a customer centric mindset at all times.
Quality Systems Management - Utilizes the quality tools and processes to ensure the quality management system is understood, implemented, maintained, and demonstrates its ability to consistently and effectively provide products/services that meet requirements.
Statistical Foundations - Applies statistical tools and technique to influence decision making; leverages understanding of data collection methods, key statistics, graphical and analytical methods to describe process performance, gain insights and drive improvement action
Supplier Quality Management - Leads all aspects of supplier quality management; helps develop strategy and collaborative supplier partnerships; identifies supplier innovation capabilities; contributes to supplier audit and certification process; tracks supplier performance metrics and acts to quickly resolve issues to improve supplier quality performance.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related technical or scientific subject required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Significant relevant work experience required, including managerial and budgetary experience. Broad business knowledge required.
VPI Quality is responsible for quality management during new product introduction and current product change processes. This includes conducting reviews across manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and design quality. At each project milestone, quality risks must be identified, and cross-functional risk mitigation plans must be developed and executed to ensure quality is fully controlled before production launch.Organize functional reviews with the project team to ensure quality activities fully cover the end-to-end process, enable timely escalation of issues, and maintain risks under control.
