Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician

We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join our team specialising in Engineering for Cummins in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

This is a permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday on-site.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Prepare, assemble, and dismantle test articles for evaluation, including initial build, instrumentation installation, and final teardown in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Conduct detailed component analysis within the Components Service area, focusing on After-In-Service (AIS) warranty returns from supported Business Units.
  • Utilize hands-on experience with Cummins Component products and various electronic and mechanical test tools and equipment to screen Component Warranty claims, identifying failure modes through structured parts analysis using standard test equipment.
  • Perform analysis of returned components, align failure modes with Global standards and Global Service Engineers, and accurately document results within internal databases such as Customer Care Information Management Systems (CCIMS).
  • Collaborate with various Global teams to reconvey tested components for detailed failure analysis, recovery activities, and alignment of technical findings.
  • Support and execute product testing according to established procedures, ensuring test validity through proper setup, instrumentation, and validated equipment usage.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot test stands, rigs, and fixtures, performing equipment upkeep as needed to ensure test readiness, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Continuously review and improve testing and analysis processes, supporting customer, quality, safety, and efficiency objectives while ensuring accurate and repeatable test results.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Hands-on experience with Cummins Component products and strong familiarity with electronic and mechanical test tools and equipment, including the ability to screen Component Warranty claims, identify failure modes, and perform structured parts analysis using standard test equipment.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and reporting tools, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA's), internal databases such as CCIMS, and Cummins service tools including INSITE and Calterm, alongside a strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences, work effectively with Global teams and Service Engineers, and actively support a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • An action-oriented and proactive approach to problem-solving and testing challenges, combined with strong technical aptitude and mechanical/electrical awareness to safely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot test equipment, stands, rigs, fixtures, and instrumentation.

Education/ Experience:

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
