We are looking for a talented Product Design Technician Level IV to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Rocky Mount, NC.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Ensure Quality : By ensuring model and drawing quality, you help maintain high standards in product design.
- Maintain Specifications : Creating and maintaining product specifications using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing ensures precision and consistency.
- Utilize CAD Tools : Using CAD data management tools for configuration control and security helps protect and manage design data effectively.
- Adhere to Standards : Ensuring the application of company, industry, national, and international standards guarantees compliance and quality.
- Process Engineering Requests : Efficiently processing internal engineering work requests supports timely project completion.
- Mentor and Train : Mentoring and training less experienced Product Designers fosters skill development and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Lead Reviews : Participating in and leading Drawing Quality Reviews ensures thorough evaluation and improvement of designs.
- Create Concept Designs : Working with engineering to generate concept models and creating assemblies to ensure fit to mating parts drives innovation and functionality.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Master Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis : Create CAD models that adhere to Cummins' standards, enabling system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
- Understand Mechanical Systems : Develop a deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts that meet customer expectations across all lifecycle stages.
- Develop Detailed Specifications : Create comprehensive specifications, including solid models, engineering bills of materials, and detailed drawings, ensuring they meet national, international, industry, and Cummins' standards.
- Manage Product Configuration and Changes : Establish and maintain product baselines, manage changes from concept to obsolescence, and ensure the integrity of product artifacts.
- Communicate Effectively : Deliver clear and tailored communications that meet the unique needs of different audiences.

Education/Experience
High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
Additional Information:
- Planning, collecting, compiling, and analyzing experimental test data from a variety of sources.
- Drawing data-based conclusions and presenting recommendations to stakeholders
- Leading 7-step problem solving activities
- Creating technical documentation to be used in Cross-Functional Design Reviews and Cummins Technical Reports
- Cross-functional collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders
- Managing conflicting priorities effectively
- Have access to required tools for basic engine assembly/disassembly (fit checks, mockups, dismantle subassemblies, etc.)
Preferred Experience:
- Leading engine, sub-system, and component level troubleshooting in dyno test cells, field test applications, and rig tests for internal combustion engines
- Design/Development/Integration of electronic wiring harnesses, Electronic Control Modules, sensors, stamped/cast/fabricated brackets, and vibration isolation
- Electronic hardware environmental testing such as EMI, EMC, water spray, vibration
- Familiarity with MS Excel/Word/Power Point/Outlook, AVL Concerto, MATLAB, test cell software such as DARTS/Puma, PTC Windchill RV&S, PTC Windchill PLM
- Working collaboratively with global stakeholders
