Product Design Technician - Level II - OFFC

Job Summary

The Product Design Technician - Level II is responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining product specifications including 3D models and engineering drawings in alignment with Cummins, industry, national, and international standards. This role contributes to product quality, configuration control, and overall engineering efficiency while supporting cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain high-quality 3D models and engineering drawings in compliance with established standards.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure accurate product definition.
  • Ensure adherence to company, industry, national, and international design standards.
  • Utilize CAD and data management systems for configuration control and data security.
  • Process and execute internal engineering work requests in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Participate in drawing quality reviews and continuous improvement of drafting standards and practices.
  • Support product configuration and change management activities across the product lifecycle.

  • Mechanical System Design: Understanding of mechanical systems and ability to design robust solutions across lifecycle stages.
  • Design Specification Development: Creation of detailed drawings, models, and BOMs to communicate design intent effectively.
  • Configuration & Change Management: Managing product data, releases, and engineering changes from concept to obsolescence.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent in a relevant STEM field (minimum requirement).
  • Preferred: Associate degree or certification from an accredited institution in mechanical design or related discipline.
  • May require compliance with export control or regulatory licensing, depending on region.

Experience

  • Relevant work experience with intermediate-level knowledge gained through education, training, or on-the-job exposure.

Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (preferred: Creo for 3D modeling and drafting).
  • Working knowledge of PLM/PDM systems (preferred: Windchill).
  • Strong understanding of GD&T principles .
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and practices.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (casting knowledge is an advantage).
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering documentation and BOMs.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Additional Requirements for Internal Candidates

  • Strong understanding of Cummins engineering and drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of Cummins engine products and after-treatment systems (EBU preferred).
  • Proven hands-on experience with Creo and Windchill.
  • Demonstrated application of GD&T in design work.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments; casting experience preferred.
