Machining Engineer
Job Summary:
Assists with the plan, design, purchase, and implementation of machining processes and equipment in an industrial plant.
Key Responsibilities:
Assists in the determination of parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals such as setup reduction and changeovers according to product specification; works with engineering to identify problems with product and performance and recommends solutions or enhancements. Assists with the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs equipment engineering design evaluations and documents results; may recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Works to improve equipment availability and capability by utilizing continuous improvement tools and working cross functionally. Competencies:

Manufacturing Knowledge - Demonstrates the knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet the function's needs and contribute towards continuous improvement.
Process Documentation - Produces written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence which are followed correctly by all approved stakeholders to establish continuity in processes and standardization.

Cutting Material Selection - Demonstrates understanding of the different characteristics in materials used in manufacturing processes by correctly identifying factors that impact the production process to select the appropriate material to be used for a specific manufacturing process.
Dimensional Metrology - Applies dimensional measurement science in the development and application of measurement/inspection processes that deliver capable measurement results, supporting design validation and conformity assessment meeting regulatory, customer and product requirements.
Health and Safety - Machine Guarding - Understands and implements Cummins policies, legal and other requirements by applying approved machine guarding standards on existing machines and/or through the design and procurement of new machines/equipment to reduce overall risk to as low as reasonably practicable.
Machine Programming - Creates factory floor machine programs by designing and implementing solutions to improve usage of machine and overall operation.
Material Removal Tooling and Processes - Selects the tools needed to complete a material removal process that meets the product requirements at the lowest total costs to provide products that meet the customer needs.
Measurement Process Design - Applying knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles and knowledge of measurement technology (standards, techniques, equipment, etc) to design a measurement system that can consistently meet industry and customer requirements.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Job Purpose:
To lead machining shift operations ensuring safe, high-quality, and cost-effective production while achieving daily targets in line with SQDCP goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Shift Operations Management
- Lead and manage CB, CH, and Cam shaft machining line (CNC/VMC/HMC) during the shift.
- Ensure production targets are met as per plan.
- Drive smooth shift handover with clear communication.
2. Safety Leadership
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and practices.
- Drive zero-incident culture through audits and engagement.
- Conduct safety talks/toolbox talks at shift start.
3. Production & Delivery
- Monitor hourly production and take corrective actions for deviations.
- Ensure adherence to takt time and production schedules.
- Escalate critical bottlenecks impacting delivery.
4. Quality Assurance
- Ensure production meets drawing specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain RFT (Right First Time) and reduce rejection/rework.
- Handle quality issues using root cause analysis.
5. Machine & Process Control
- Monitor machine performance and OEE.
- Ensure proper process adherence, parameter control, and SOP compliance.
- Coordinate with maintenance for breakdown resolution.
6. Team Management
- Lead, guide, and supervise operators and technicians.
- Ensure manpower availability, skill utilization, and discipline.
- Drive team engagement and capability building.
7. Tooling & Material Handling
- Ensure availability of tools, gauges, and materials.
- Monitor tool life and coordinate timely replacement.
- Prevent line stoppage due to shortages.
8. Continuous Improvement
- Drive Kaizen, 5S, and waste reduction initiatives on the shopfloor.
- Improve productivity, reduce cycle time, and eliminate losses.
9. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain shift production reports, downtime logs, and quality records.
- Review KPIs: OEE, rejection rate, productivity, safety.
- Provide updates to management on shift performance.

Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical / Production
