DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Fuel Systems Adv Dev and Performance Controls Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins' business in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Support and follow team documentation and functional excellence practices: Strong writing skills are required to maintain controls documentation; GitLab and Markdown experience is a plus.
- Troubleshoot and validate fuel system controls: Use lab equipment to test and troubleshoot on the open-loop bench and in vehicles; MATLAB/Simulink proficiency is required for software analysis, data processing, and MIL/HIL testing.
- Deliver on-time, defect-free calibration content: Apply classical and modern control theory with actuator and sensor knowledge to develop calibrations and validate them on-engine.
- Enable new controls capabilities through algorithm design or calibration: Requires extensive experience in fuel system hardware, calibration, and adaptive control to develop next-generation fuel controls.
- Drive Controls Innovation: Design and refine electronic control systems to improve performance and reliability.
- Solve Complex Challenges: Lead troubleshooting and root-cause investigations to deliver effective solutions.
- Apply First Principles Thinking: Use control theory and engineering fundamentals to guide algorithm design.
- Improve Development Processes: Strengthen modeling, simulation, calibration, and DVP&R workflows.
- Translate Customer Needs: Convert customer requirements into functional control algorithms.
- Mentor and Collaborate: Support junior engineers and collaborate across technical teams.
- Lead High-Impact Projects: Take ownership of complex components or smaller projects with accountability.
- Champion Quality and Performance: Influence design and calibration decisions to ensure reliable, high-quality products.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Deep Technical Competency in Mechatronics and Controls You'll need a strong foundation in designing and applying open/closed loop control systems and mechatronic components, including hardware-software integration, to ensure optimal system performance.
- Systems-Level Thinking and Integration Skills Success requires the ability to model, simulate, and analyze complex systems, translate customer needs into system requirements, and integrate subsystems to deliver reliable, high-performing solutions.
- Proactive Problem Solving and Failure Mode Avoidance You must be skilled in identifying potential failure modes early, applying structured problem-solving techniques, and using data-driven methods to ensure product reliability and continuous improvement.
- Strong Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration You'll need to effectively communicate technical concepts, build networks, and collaborate across teams to align on objectives, manage ambiguity, and drive results in a dynamic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
- Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
