Job Summary

The Facilities Technician - HVAC/Mechanical - Electrical Level II supports the maintenance, repair, and operation of facility systems and equipment, with a focus on HVAC and mechanical infrastructure. Working under moderate supervision, this role assists in diagnosing issues, executing maintenance activities, and ensuring safe, reliable facility operations. The position also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives while developing technical capabilities through structured training programs.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards; ensure safe execution of all maintenance activities.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and support emergency preparedness systems.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEMS, ISO standards, and audit requirements.

Facilities Maintenance & Operations

  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems including chillers, cooling towers, compressors, boilers, and ventilation systems.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance using maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo).
  • Support facility operations including utilities, temperature control, lighting, and equipment upkeep.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and calibrate facility equipment and ensure readiness for operations.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose system malfunctions using test equipment, software tools, and engineering drawings (P&IDs, SLDs).
  • Support engine test cell operations, including rigging, pressure testing, calibration, and utility maintenance.
  • Assist in PLC/SCADA-based troubleshooting and basic control system tuning.
  • Provide support for fabrication, equipment installation, and system improvements.

Project & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in improvement projects using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Support asset management strategies and maintenance planning.
  • Contribute to efficiency, reliability, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Teamwork & Coordination

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Guide and support contract technicians and junior team members.
  • Participate in daily operational meetings and communicate updates effectively.

Documentation & Systems

  • Track and manage work orders, maintenance schedules, and service records.
  • Maintain documentation related to audits, calibration, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure timely closure of assigned tasks within maintenance systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of or eligibility for a formal apprenticeship or technical training program in HVAC/Mechanical - Electrical related field.
  • Relevant technical certifications and (as per regional requirements) preferred.
  • Compliance with export control or regulatory licensing requirements, if applicable.

Experience

  • 6-7 years relevant work experience in engine test bed operation and maintenance. (AVL test bed is preferred)
  • Hands-on experience in industrial utilities, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Moderate level of relevant work experience or technical training in facilities maintenance or HVAC systems
  • Exposure to maintenance planning, spare parts management, and audit compliance is desirable.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, industrial utilities, and mechanical equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC/SCADA systems and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, electrical schematics).
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo).
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices including LOTO.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments (heat, confined spaces, shifts).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide daily operational support to test cell activities by promptly attending to equipment breakdowns and ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Work in a rotational shift environment, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays, as per business requirements.
  • Apply basic knowledge of engine testing and test cell maintenance, which will be considered an added advantage.
  • Engine ACS for intake air sea level conditioning, engine testing Dynamometer, Coolant conditioning and charge air cooler, fabrication processes.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems, including basic troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Interpret and apply user-level understanding of P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) and Electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLDs).
  • Support calibration activities, including control valve calibration and basic PID tuning.
  • Actively participate in daily operational meetings (e.g., morning huddles) to align on priorities and updates.
  • Guide and support contract workforce to ensure safe and efficient task execution.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to test cell equipment and facility utilities.
  • Support facility rigging activities as per test plan requirements, including pressure testing and verification of calibration and test equipment prior to use.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support equipment calibration, component replacement, and issue resolution.
  • Utilize maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo) for tracking, updating, and closing work orders within defined timelines.
  • Maintain awareness of all facility equipment and ensure proper operational readiness.
  • Ensure timely closure of maintenance issues raised in systems during each shift.
  • Manage and authorize work permits, ensuring proper closure upon completion of assigned tasks.
  • Handle materials efficiently and maintain high standards of housekeeping in fabrication shops and storage areas, including safe waste disposal practices.
  • Support spare parts management, including tracking, availability, and coordination.
