DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Controls Engineer - Senior - to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins location Morristown, TN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Innovating Control Systems: You will design and develop advanced control systems that ensure sensors and actuators perform to specification, driving reliability and efficiency. Including designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.
- Testing and Validation: By implementing bench tests and altering software/equipment, you will verify functionality and ensure systems meet performance standards.
- Problem-Solving Expertise: You will support and debug complex issues, address change requests, and provide solutions that keep operations running smoothly.
- Financial Stewardship: Through preparing cost estimates, compiling equipment data, and reviewing appropriation requests, you will ensure projects are economically viable and well-planned.
- Strategic Planning: You will investigate project requirements and develop solutions that balance economic, personnel, and environmental considerations, aligning technical work with broader organizational goals.
- Technical Support: Your responsibility for installing and supporting PLC based hardware and software will strengthen system reliability and operational continuity.
- Mentorship and Coaching: By guiding and mentoring less experienced Controls Engineers, you will build team capability and foster professional growth.
- Continuous Improvement: You will identify opportunities to refine processes, enhance system performance, and contribute to long term innovation in control engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Collaboration and Communication: Build strong partnerships across teams and deliver clear, multimode communication tailored to diverse audiences to ensure alignment and shared success.
- Health and Safety Leadership: Champion proactive safety behaviors, identify and mitigate hazards, and foster an injury free workplace culture through daily practices and continuous improvement.
- Controls Engineering Expertise: Apply deep knowledge of controls hardware and software, reviewing and approving designs to ensure seamless integration with manufacturing systems.
- Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoot electrical systems, implement secure controls networking, and resolve complex issues to maintain reliable and safe operations.
- Automation and Programming Skills: Drive factory automation by applying machine programming, robotic integration, control logic, and ladder logic to optimize processes and efficiency.
- Sensor and Measurement Application: Select and apply sensor technologies to gather accurate data, analyze results, and ensure product quality standards are consistently met.
- Manufacturing and Process Knowledge: Implement changes in processes, equipment, and applications with a strong understanding of manufacturing systems, AutoCAD schematics, and PLC platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens).
- Continuous Learning and Innovation: Leverage preferred skills such as CNC programming, lean manufacturing, Creo 3D modeling, and Ignition/SQL/Python programming to expand capabilities and drive innovation in controls and automation.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Robotic programming and integration experience.
- Control Logic and Ladder Logic experience.
- Strong Electrical background.
- Can produce electrical drawings and schematics as needed.
- Excellent understanding of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's.
- Positive attitude, Ethics, and Values which support our company's values and a healthy, high performance culture.
- Strong technical skills and experience or aptitude in process automation.
- Ability and desire to develop a thorough understanding of the manufacturing process.
- Ability to partner with daily operations engineers, maintenance, and operators.
- Experience AutoCAD to update/create electrical schematics.
- Experience in MS Windows Applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of CNC programming.
- Experience with lean manufacturing.
- Creo 3D Modeling experience.
- Ignition, SQL, and Python programming.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- BS in Engineering. Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering preferred
- 5 years experience
