Combustion and Emissions Systems Technical Advisors #IN1277
Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across business units applying the core competencies of thermal and fluid sciences in the specialized areas of combustion and emissions science. Obtain input and negotiate with stakeholders to provide input related to analysis, design optimization, feasibility studies, or architecture definition. Use systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of medium term project direction including conducting analysis and testing for successful progression of projects. Create, manage, improve and apply processes including Pre Program Planning, (PPP), Product Preceding Technology, (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), Functional Excellence Practice (FEP) required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making. Apply Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer to advise on the design of engineering and power systems. Calibrate and validate engine performance models with GT-Power, and assess experimental data quality by utilizing tools related to thermal and fluid sciences including Electronic Control Module (ECM) and Emissions data system. Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems. Utilize extensive knowledge of Combustion and Emissions Science to interpret and predict the performance of combustion systems by leveraging a quantitative and intuitive comprehension of the conversion of chemical energy to heat by reacting a fuel with an oxidizer, the formation of exhaust pollutants, modeling tools, controls, and experimental tools to answer key questions about the system or component. Apply Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems to interpret and predict the performance of IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries. Solve system and product issues by using the 7-Step Product Problem Solving Process to determine assignable cause, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify system root causes in order to recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed through extensive use of Systems Requirements Engineering. Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation, and track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle. Define system of interest by drawing boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables. Participate in Systems Thinking in order to predict system behavior and devise modifications in order to product the desired effects. Coach and mentor junior engineers.
