Chemical Systems Technical Advisors #IN1285
Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems, and lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions. Research, design, analyze, and perform testing and failure analysis of chemical-based products, including catalysts, substrates, sensors, batteries and fuel cells. Conduct extensive Chemical or Electrochemical Performance Testing to design tests that measure chemical transformation of species, selectivity, electric yield, response to chemical and physical environments in order to determine performance, durability of electrochemically active components. Examine and interpret test data using analysis methods to draw conclusions that influence hardware and controls design decisions and to provide information for computational tools development. Impact product design decisions through Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis to predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements. Lead the Characterization of Chemical Systems to design and conduct tests of physicochemical properties, including morphology, acid-base and redox properties, diffusion characteristic, impedance behaviors, solubility, and chemical poisoning, in order to aid in diagnostics and prediction of performance health of chemically active components. Design and construct laboratory equipment to simulate various aging exposures relevant to practice applications of active chemical components, including thermal cycling, chemical poisoning, and physical masking as part of Accelerated Aging Testing and Analysis. Perform simulation of chemical systems to determine chemical or electrochemical performance of chemically active components and systems via numerical modeling. Solve product problems using a process that protects the customer, determine the assignable cause, implement data-based solutions, identify systemic root causes, and recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Develop product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority. Utilize experience with Product Verification and Validation Management to negotiate product requirements against capability to guide project scope and evaluate analytical simulation and physical test results that verify product capability and validate requirements. Assess legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and product recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.
Positions require a Master's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as a Chemical, Systems, Diagnostics or Controls Engineer or Technical Specialist, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Chemical, Systems, Diagnostics or Controls Engineer or Technical Specialist, or related position.
