Senior Director, BD Transactions (1 of 2)
The Senior Director, Business Development Transactions supports the execution of complex partnering, licensing, collaboration and acquisition deals that shape CSL's future portfolio and scientific leadership. This role translates TA insights, enterprise strategy and cross-functional perspectives into high-quality transaction structures and negotiation outcomes. It serves as a senior deal strategist, ensuring CSL secures partnerships that deliver scientific, commercial, and financial value while managing enterprise risk with discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Transaction Execution Leadership
- Lead execution of CSL's high-priority licensing agreements, research collaborations, asset acquisitions, equity-linked deals and divestitures
- Translate TA evaluation assumptions, due diligence findings and strategic intent into precise negotiation strategies, deal terms and execution plans
Deal Structuring & Negotiation Strategy
- Shape deal structures, financial constructs and key contractual terms that balance scientific opportunity with commercial viability and risk tolerance
- Partner closely with BD TA, Legal/IP and Finance to define defensible positions, valuation baselines, negotiation boundaries and fallback strategies
- Working closely with BD TA, represent CSL as a senior negotiator in external partner discussions, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and long-term alliance success
Diligence Leadership
- Lead cross-functional diligence programs covering scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, CMC, supply, legal and operational domains
- Ensure diligence findings directly inform deal shaping, risk mitigation and integration planning.
- Drive clarity and transparency of risks, assumptions and trade-offs for governance stakeholders.
Governance & Decision Support
- Prepare high-quality PRISM and senior leadership decision materials that clearly articulate deal rationale, valuation considerations, risks and strategic impact.
- Ensure all transactions adhere to CSL governance standards, compliance requirements and industry best practices.
- Facilitate timely decision-making by surfacing issues early and driving alignment across functions.
Enterprise Orchestration & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Align stakeholders across R&D, Commercial, Technical Operations, Corporate Strategy, Finance and Enterprise Alliance Management.

- Drive enterprise judgement by ensuring rigorous debate, transparent trade-offs and alignment to long-range strategy.
- Collaborate with BD TA to ensure transaction structures reflect scientific and commercial assumptions.
Post-Signature Handover & Early-Life Support
- Ensure smooth transition of executed deals to Alliance Management and operational owners, including risk registers, obligations and communications.
- Provide early-life issue resolution support during the initial stabilisation period of partnerships and alliances.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Mentor and guide more junior members of the team, strengthening CSL's internal dealmaking capability.
- Contribute to developing tools, templates, negotiation frameworks and knowledge repositories that elevate the function.
- Drive a culture of discipline, strategic thinking, and deal quality across the BD Transactions team.
