Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.
Position Overview
The Water Truck Driver is responsible for operating the water truck to transport water and other materials and/or equipment to various job site locations. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of self-propelled broom, skid loader and other duties including assisting the crews.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials.
- Inspects truck, trailer and other equipment as required at the start and end of each workday, completing the Driver Check-off Sheet which indicates that all systems are functioning properly.
- Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation as well as monitoring gauges during operation of vehicle.
- Accurate logging of deliveries required as well as maintain required daily vehicle logs.
- Assist in operating other DOT vehicles, operating milling equipment, assisting milling crew and other departments as needed.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Responsible for the efficient working condition of truck and equipment including perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements including but not limited to vehicle weight, licensing, vehicle inspection and hours of service.
- Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources.
- Must meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- One to two years CDL driving experience. Three to five years of CDL driving experience preferred.
- Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 21 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must have and maintain a valid class A or a class B Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement and meet the company MVR requirements.
- Must have and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certificate.
- Must meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manuals.
- Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and work away from home when required.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA, Company Policy and specific Job Site Requirements.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to operate Class B Truck with Tanker and various other types of heavy equipment that may include but not limited to asphalt paver, rollers, broom and skid steer.
- Ability to utilize a tablet for time keeping, training and other items.
- Demonstrate a hands-on, collaborative approach; work well in a team and independently.
- Ability to read and comprehend policies, instructions, plant site maps, city street maps and other GPS based equipment information.
- Ability to do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records.
- Ability to communicate, understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- The employee is frequently required to sit, reach, use hands to hold, grasp, turn and handle equipment and/or tools.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, balance, crawl, kneel, crouch, bend, push, pull and climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways and access elevated platforms.
- Must be able to occasionally push 50 pounds of force overhead to open truck hood.
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Must be able to communicate with others verbally and in writing as well as utilize a computer, phone and tablet.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, typical seasonal cold and heat temperatures. The employee is exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
