Position Overview .

The Underground Pipefitter Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating crews engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utility systems, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water lines, and drainage structures. This position ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards, plans, specifications, and schedules. The Foreman provides leadership, training, and daily direction to crew members while maintaining productivity and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise underground utility crews on construction projects.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, grades, and utility layouts.
  • Coordinate daily work activities with Superintendents, Project Managers, Surveyors, and other crews.
  • Oversee the installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water mains, manholes, inlets, junction boxes, and related underground structures.
  • Monitor trenching, shoring, excavation, bedding, and backfill operations.
  • Ensure pipe systems are installed according to project specifications and grade requirements.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Inspect work areas, equipment, and completed installations to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Schedule labor, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity.
  • Train and mentor crew members on proper installation methods, safety practices, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain production records, daily reports, and documentation as required.
  • Communicate project progress, delays, and challenges to management.
  • Perform hands-on work alongside crew members when necessary.
  • Coordinate utility conflict resolutions and adjustments in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree GED is preferred.
  • Previous related experience in the construction field.
  • Minimum 5 years in heavy underground utility work installing water lines, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and able to operate excavators, backhoe, and loader is preferred.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • If needed, able to work around existing underground utilities like fiber cable gas lines power cables etc.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or foreman experience.

Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations

  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally.
