Position Overview

The Transportation Coordinator will directly oversee all DOT compliance for Pike, Carroll, Redi-mix, and all other assigned drivers as directed. The Transportation Coordinator role involves compliance, driver safety, and other tasks as assigned. This position also requires demonstrating a professional, flexible attitude and strong organizational, written, and verbal skills.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Ensure drivers' hours are within DOT regulations and manage DOT driver compliance
  • Monitor driver compliance to verify adherence to regulations
  • Oversee and monitor all operational procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Coordinate with different department managers to review all compliance violations and corrective measures
  • Assist with employee training sessions on legal and compliance regulations
  • Schedule DOT random drug & alcohol tests for drivers
  • DOT Medical card renewals (cross reference expiring med card with random list).
  • Ensure all DOT driver files (CDL and Med card only files) are up to date and meeting FMCSA compliance.
  • Monitor and request new copies of soon to be expiring driver licenses
  • Responsible for providing guidance on compliance matters.
  • Experience in a transportation or logistics company is a plus
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one to three years of leadership experience.
  • Strong negotiation skills, along with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent time management skills and the capability to multi-task.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, purchasing, sales, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A thorough understanding of industry regulations.


General Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, DOT regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and dependable transportation to and from the job site.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data. This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near heavy equipment and trucks and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Traffic patterns and traveling public are included in work environment.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but when in the field it could be very loud and may require protective equipment.
